For STM+ with toddler, what are your contingency plans when labor strikes?

I'm curious to hear what others' plans are for what to do with their toddler when it's time to go to the hospital.

We have friends on hand to be "on call" for the moment we need to hand off our 2.5 year old, and I've been coming up with different scenarios (i.e. middle of the night, while we're at work/he's at daycare, daytime on a weekend, etc...).

Anyone care to share their plan?

Mine (tentatively) goes something like the below, with "Friend #2" being the ones that will keep him overnight since they also have a toddler and all the gear, etc.. "Friend #1" is my immensely helpful child-less friend who can come and go more at her leisure with no toddler in tow. :-)

Weekday:

1) We need to leave for the hospital between 8 pm and 6 am (DS bedtime)

    1. Friend #1 comes over, crashes at our place, and takes DS (in our car) to daycare
      1. Friend #2 picks up DS from daycare

2) We need to leave for the hospital during the day while DS is at daycare

    1. Friend #2 picks up DS at daycare

3) We need to leave for the hospital in the evening, between daycare and DS’s bedtime

    1. If time allows, we drop off DS at Friend #2's
    2. Friend #2 come over and get DS and take him to their house

Weekend:

1) We need to leave for the hospital between 8 pm and 6 am
    1. Friend #1 comes over, crashes at our place, and takes DS (in our car) to Friend #2 in the morning.

2) We need to leave for the hospital during the day.

    1. If time allows, we drop off DS at Friend #2 ’s
    2. Friend #2 come over and get DS and take him to their house

Neither of my parents work (they are both on disability) but they live 4 hours away. I will probably call them as soon as I go into labor and have them take my daughter when they get here. My inlaws live 2 hours away so if they can get off of work I'll have them come and get her instead. My last labor was about 27 hours long, so if it's anything like that things aren't going to be speedy. If I did have a surprisingly speedy labor we could probably call enough friends/church members to find someone to take her last minute.

DHs coworker (or her daughter who usually babysits for us) will come over and watch DD as soon as we know it is the real deal (anytime of night). DDs godmother lives 1.5hrs away and will head down to relieve coworker and watch DD for however long I'm in the hospital (she has already worked it out with her boss).

My labor with DD was only about 6hrs and I'm already 4cm so we will not be delaying getting to the hospital! :)

My sister is is going to be here.  Right now I am having a planned c-section, so my sister is coming the night before.  She lives about 45 minutes away.  If my water should break or I go into labor before my date, then either we will wait at the house for my sister or see if my mom or my MIL can come until my sister gets here.

My mother is coming to stay with us when I am 37w5d.  I'm just praying I don't have him before that time.

Both my parents and my in-laws live in our town, so they are both on-call.  Most likely, it'll be my parents since they are both retired and watch DD anyway during the week while I'm at work.

My oldest brother and SIL live in the apartment underneath me. SIL's aunt and uncle also live there. Everyone is aware that when I go into labor it will be a phone call down to them, along with a bang on the floor. No matter what time it is. If for some reason they are not home, SIL works in the next town where the hospital is. If they are further away, my 2 other older brothers live 10 minutes away. So, I will be all set. SO works less than a 5 minute walk from the house, so he will be able to be here in a heartbeat as well to go with me. We are very lucky when it comes to this.

One of my coworkers who lives down the street has a 3 year old (DS's BFF, if you will) and will take him/pick him up from daycare when we need to go to the hospital. The kids get along incredibly well for two toddler boys and it'll be easy for DS to feel comfortable. We'll coordinate a hand off to my MIL when she can get off work and come to town (she's 2 1/2 hours away).

We actually haven't figured out what were going to do with DS. Weve been talking to my MIL about DS possibly staying with her, but nothings set in stone yet.

You have clearly thought this out way more than I have. The ILs live around the block, are retired and on call for anything we need. I assume that I'll call my mom when I go into labor. It will take her about 2 hrs to get here. The grandparents can take turns watching DD while we're in L&D. We live one block from the hospital, so I'm sure everyone will be going back and forth.

I just wanted to say, this is a great idea. I need to put a contingency plan together soon. Your format is great.

I'm very fortunate that my parents live in the same city.  When I go in labor, we will drop DS off at my moms (same neighborhood).  If I am to be induced, same plan.. drop him off at my moms.

As long as it's not the middle of the night, she will bring him up to the hospital close to the time the baby is going to be born.  She will also be bringing him up there for visits.

I'm not sure yet if she will stay at our house or her house at night time yet.

My parents live 5 minutes from us, so they will take him.  If I go into labor at night, my mom will just come over and sleep at our house.  I'm hoping that I have the baby on a day when he's at the sitter's (he only goes 3 times a week) so that my mom can bring him to the sitter's so he can just have a normal day and she can come over once the baby is born.  Then he can meet his little sister after his regular day.
