Diaper Pail?

I've read reviews for everything from diaper genies to diaper champs to the diaper dekor to the arm and hammer one.  No one seems very happy with any of them.  I'm not expecting miracles, just looking for a good, basic diaper pail.  If possible, I'd like to not have to buy special refill bags BUT would be willing to if the pail is a good one and the refills aren't crazy expensive.

Thanks!

I'm happy with my Diaper Genie Elite. I've never had a smell issue and I like that it doesn't take up a ton of space. I buy refills when they're on sale at Target or I have a coupon. I don't find them to be expensive and honestly I don't have to buy them nearly as often as you would think.

Here's what I like about these specialty bags. It's basically one long bag. When you need to take out the trash, you open up the whole can and cut off the used portion. You don't have to throw out the whole bag. That's why I went with this kind of pail. I didn't want to go through a ton of regular trash bags with a regular pail. It's just easier for me and I'm not buying tons of trash bags.

I used to nanny and they had a diaper genie.  It was GREAT.  I could cram 30+ diapers in there (I don't really know that you're suppose to....but my lazy self would cram, cram, cram!) and it wouldn't smell at all.  If you only have one in diapers I don't know if I'd spend the money on it - you can just take out the trash every day.  I have 2 dogs that would both LOVE them some dirty diapers so I'll probably have to get one because of that.  The diaper genie would be my preference after having such a good experience with it before.

DD is aout to turn 6 months and I just bought the arm and hammer one.

TO be honest, now that she is starting solids I don't think ANYTHING will keep that poo stench in!

But for regular pee diapers it is doing fine.

I was using a simple step can, knowing it wasn't a long term solution.

Best thing is to just walk the poop diapers to the outside trash as soon as LO is changed.  This isn't so bad once they stop pooping 12 times per day,

We use the Diaper Champ and I have no complaints.  The only time that I ever notice any odor coming from it is when we change the bag... so I recently started just carrying the whole thing outside (easy, because it has a handle) and changing the bag out there.  Love the fact that we can use our regular trash bags and not need any sort of special refills.

We have the Arm and Hammer one and have been really happy with it. It never smells and takes up very little space. It does take specific bags but it makes it really easy to replace and easy to dump when it's full but with no mess or smell. We go through about one per week, maybe two in the beginning. I bought a supply of bags before I even had my son at BRU during a sale and I'm still working off that purchase 10 months later and I've got plenty left. So it's cost about $20 for 10 months? Money well spent for us. (I should point out though, he does go to daycare during the week. If he didn't, I imagine I'd go through double what I did.)

I loved my arm & hammer until DS was 10 or 11 months old.  He broke the latch on it trying to open it and it stinks now that it won't close.  I think I will find a new pail that takes regular bags and just add the baking soda and an air freshener. I'd think it would work just as well.

We like our Diaper Genie Elite and will be getting a 2nd one with this LO.  Haven't had a smell issue--sometimes you can smell it when you open the lid to put a new one in, but nothing bad.

I had the Baby Trend for almost the 1st two years. I liked how sturdy it was, and that I could use regular 13 gallon bags. It worked great, until after awhile I noticed black mold around the inner ring. Even after cleaning, it still kind of stunk. (And, for the record, I always dumped solid poops in the toilet before tossing the diaper.)
In doing research, I read that plastic will absorb odors. I decided to go ahead and buy and try another one, even though my son seems to be closer to ready to potty train.
I now have the Dekor. I like how I don't have to refill the bags every time. And, they smell nice. Also, the pail is supposed to be made of a special type of plastic that won't absorb the odors (as much).

If I'm being honest, I didn't really see the point.  Wrapping up the diaper good and throwing it in the garbage can worked just the same for us.

we have the ubbi, love it, it keeps the smells in, uses regular bags, and looks as stylish as a pail can look (which is nice since we have it in our hallway).

it wasnt necessary before they started solids, but since then its a must have for us if you ever change diapers in a place where its not easy to take them out each time you have a poopy one.  we empty it every few days and it keeps the smells in well.

We have the Dekor and really like it so far. We bought it because we can use it for cloth diapers with a large wet bag, and then eventually for a regular trash can because a regular trash bag should fit as well.

we have the arm and hammer diaper pail and i love it. my daughter is one, and her poop SMELLS, and for the most part it keeps the smell contained (i mean you cant leave the bag in there forever or of course it'll smell terrible). the bags are actually pretty cheap, before she was born i bought a big pack of like, 30 or 40 bags at babies r us for like 10 bucks, and it literally lasted me until she was around 8 or 9 months old! plus, if you go on the arm and hammer website, you can sign up for the coupons, and you can print them out straight from the website. every once in a while they'll have a % off one arm n hammer product, not trying to be a cheapskate, but i printed one off, then made a couple copys. every penny counts right!

Love our Ubbi diaper pail!

Uses any bag you want. Sealed with rubber gaskets all around. We use cloth diapers, so we needed something to hold the smell for days at a time. This was the only one that worked. It also has a lock on it, so kids or pets can't get it (we've never had to use the lock).

I have an extra pail. We did use it, but it's in great condition. I'd be happy to send it to you! Here's my link to it on craigslist: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/bab/3534682251.html
