sharing our room with the kids! HELP!

long story short...my fiance and i lost our jobs and eventually our apartment when i was pregnant with our first daughter (now one), and we had to move in with his mother. we are currently sharing a room with our little girl, which has really been great...until i found out that we're having #2 (due early may). we're beyond excited for another baby girl, but we're already tight on space...well thats putting it lightly...any suggestions on how to make this all work!

and if your wondering, currently in our tiny room, we have our daughters full sized crib, our queen sized bed, our dresser, our daughters dresser (which is really just a nightstand), a small 3 shelf bookcase, and then we also have storage in our closet (our stuff is in there too).

Wow! I thought I was trying to solve an impossible puzzle with a small 2 bed home, is there no where else in the house you could set up a small space for either sister or baby? If not, maybe a small cosleeper off the bed and make room in your dresser. Babies take up a lot of room, I hear! Good luck!

haha yeah, its been pretty stressful to try to figure out how we're gonna do this. unfortunately there isnt anywhere else to put either of the girls...we were thinking we could fit a convertible mini crib comfortably...one that turn into a toddler bed (we're planning on moving our TV to the garage anyway, because it takes up too much room, and we would like to get a flat screen to mount on the wall regardless)...that way once our older daughter is ready for a toddler bed, we can just move #2 into the full sized crib, and turn the mini into a toddler bed for our older daughter. but even if that is an option, we still dont have adequate storage for clothes...our dresser isnt very big, and the only free drawer has extra baby blankets, and receiving blankets...burping cloths...all the stuff we dont use ALL the time, but still need. we hang all of her clothes that we can...but that still leaves pants for both girls, toys, and then all the necessities...diapers for both, wipes, toiletries, since we have no storage in our bathroom either...if this isnt motivation to move, then i dont know what the hell is!

Do you have anything under your bed? If not, get some underbed storage totes and keep some stuff in there. I have some under mine, one is shoes, one is bags and one is off season stuff. It helps make more room in closets/dressers. Good luck!

I gather that your space issues are liked to financial constraints so first piece of advise is to cross the flat screen off your list. You'll survive without a tv.

Try to store more under your bed. See if risers will help you get more height so you can use taller containers. Also, look up. Is there space above your dresser for shelves? Just be sure everything is safe for toddlers.

You could also put some of the plastic storage units with drawers in the closet. Ditto on the tv, just concentrate all your energy on getting out of there. Good luck!

Can you fit a small pack-n-play in the room?  Do you really need your daughter's dresser in the room...maybe have her share yours due to limited space.  Our DD spent a while in our room as we felt more comfortable with her sleeping in her pack-n-play in front of our bed for the first few months.  Then we co-slept for a while and then she went into her crib which was also in our room.

I would rent a storage space. Keep all seasonal stuff there and unneeded furniture.

I'm a minimalist and probably would just start a donation pile. A whole drawer of extra baby blankets seems absurd to me. I would suggest having three blankets donate the rest.

Sell the crib and find a small profile toddler bed. I would look into a small cosleeper for the side of the bed.

money isnt really an issue now, and we werent gonna be getting the new tv anytime soon, making sure our kids are comfortable is more important than a new tv. i've mapped out our room, and the furniture we already have....and we can comfortably fit a mini crib, im really just more concerned about storage for clothes, toys, and then diapers and what not.
