Remind me: what can go over the crib?

Our furniture should be arriving soon so I've started looking at more decorating sites for inspiration on the finishing and personal touches. So many of the photos have things hanging on the wall over the crib - framed photos, banners, wooden letters, etc. I thought I read somewhere this was dangerous and was only planning to use decals. Am I remembering wrong and this is ok? Or are these photos just staged unrealistically?

I'm sure the safest thing is to not have anything up there, but if you do, make sure it's fastened to the wall very securely and up out of LO's reach.  

I had decals and LO peeled them off.   LOL.

We just did not put our crib right up against the wall.  We left about 6" or so between the wall and crib so that if anything did fall, it would just fall in the space, and lo couldnt reach up and pull anything off.

We had and will have again decals and wooden letters, the crib is about 2" from the wall and also the letters are super thin and light and super attached to the wall with heavy duty double tape

You can put some deco up there, just leave a space between the wall and the crib, secure it well, and avoid glass/mirrors

We only felt comfortable putting a decal above the crib.

My husband painted a mural over our crib.  Not an option for everyone obviously, but it works out well because it is decorative but safe.
