twins question

So my husband and I are having a little "difference"of opinion on if we could still have twins or not. I am 10w PG, we had an U/S at 8w 4d, and all the tech saw was 1 little "blob". Could there still be twins in there? I had a vaginal U/S so I am pretty sure that if there was 2 babies in there she would have seen 2. So, what are the chances of there being a 2nd one in there?

It could be possible, but at 8 weeks they could detect we were expecting twins.

Every person I have ever known that has had twins found out at their first US. Unless you had the worst US tech of all time (which could be possible considering she referred to your growing baby as a "blob"), I'd assume she would have seen the second "blob".

Chances are really slim they would've missed that especially at almost 9 weeks. My best friend is expecting twins and they saw them when she was barely 5 weeks along.

Thinking on the subject though- can you imagine in the days before u/s and doppler they didn't have much of a way of telling a woman was expecting multiples until birth!!??

An 8 week ultrasound is pretty clear as far as what's in there. I wouldn't expect to be surprised, but you never know I guess.

Unless you have an idiot tech and a machine from 1980, it is pretty obvious by 8 weeks if there is one or two in there.

It does happen.  Mostly with twins that share a placenta, when the membrane between them is too thin too see.  Then there is only one "blob" with two babies inside of it, which COULD be hard to see if you aren't looking thoroughly.

My u/s at 7 weeks with di/di twins (Different sacs different placentas), preeettttty obvs.

It would be a rare and off chance that they missed twins in a transvaginal ultrasound.

As a side note, I don't understand why people are so obsessed with the possibility of having twins. Given the choice, I'd choose a singleton over multiples every day of the week. A singleton pregnancy carries enough anxiety and possibilities of it's own--- why wish to add to that when you factor in another fetus? It seems to be simply a glorified thing these days.

Is there a reason you think you might be carrying twins? Did I miss something?

I wonder the same thing. When we found out twins I had a bit of a nervous breakdown. I don't understand why everyone is all "omg twins please"!

Ah silly me. That makes up for the rest of it. My fears have now dissipated.

It was very clear that we were having twins at 6 weeks. I wouldn't say it's impossible that there may be two, but I would say it is very, very unlikely.
