When did you start buying diapers?

I always had the notion I would buy a pack a month, usually different brands since I wouldn't know what worked with my LO, but have yet to get started. haha

I'm  a FTM so I'll probably be getting a few packs at the baby shower my mother is throwing me...but I was just curious if most of y'all waited till right before baby? Or if you tried to stock up on them?

I bought one pack of NB size diapers, because they have the belly-button cutouts... I will probably buy one or two packs of size 1 diapers and wait to buy the rest.

I'm CD'ing and bought my first prefolds this weekend, at week 33. I'm a procrastinator.

I didn't start early with my first two but I plan to with this one. I only use Pampers. I find they worked the best and although they are different than when my kids needed them it's all that has worked well for my sisters who have many kids in the meantime.

I will be starting to buy diapers and wipes in February. I would like to have a huge stock of several things I know I will need. I don't buy any newborn diapers because you usually get some of those and you don't need many.

This.  I'm waiting until I know what works.  I think it will be a total PITA to have to return diapers.

Around 30 weeks maybe? You don't really need to stock up too much. I plan on getting a big box of newborn Pampers and calling it good. I have tiny babies and Pampers seemed to contour to their little bottoms the best. We switch to Luvs when we go to size 1.

If you are a ftm, don't buy diapers ahead of time you don't know what you'll like. We were diehard pampers/luvs they're the same people, and we HATED Huggies, but I know many moms who were the opposite.

The best advice I heard for this was this: instead of buying a pack a week, put 20 a week on a target gift card or something and let that be your diaper card.

All that being said, the best place to buy diapers IMO is amazon through amazon mom. You get like 30 off and the deliver them to your door in monthly or bimonthly shipments.

Idea: we are having a "Diaper Raffle" at our shower. Anyone who brings a pack of diapers gets entered into the raffle and wins a spa day/massage. My friend did this - spent $80 on a massage and recieved over $400 in diapers.

This is what we will be doing. We loved Pampers at first last time and absolutely hated Huggies. Then switched to target brand because they fit best. It is really going to depend on the baby and their shape. At least that's what I found out the hard way. Gave away several opened packages to friends. =

I have bought 1 box of NB pampers at BJs and plan to use cds after that box is done.  I will use disposables for daycare and cd at home, so boxes last a while. I have all the cds from DS, so I'm not planning on spending too much at this point.

I am only buying diapers if I find them on sale and have a coupon that will make them about half off - CVS had Pampers on clearance the other week so I bought those with coupons for $4 a pack. Otherwise I would not stock up on diapers I had to pay full price for, I don't see the point. Also I plan to cloth diaper at home and use disposables for day care, I just ordered 1 of a couple different types of diapers to try. Once I know what CD's I like I will order more.

I got a box of NB and a box of Size 1 at my shower. I didn't buy any more than that until DS was born and I could see what kind worked best for him.

We bought a variety of sizes and started buying them early with DS but I haven't started this pregnancy.
Keep your receipt. I usually taped it to the box. Usually that helps if you need to return them. Walmart is usually really good about allowing you to exchange them without the receipt.

We didn't have to buy diapers for the first year BC we had bought enough before ds was born and got so many at
the shower. It was awesome!!!

I've been buying them since the beginning if I find a great coupon. I just buy a variety of sizes and stick with Pampers and Luvs. I've also been stocking up on wipes. There are always great coupons for them and Target has them on sale a lot, so I tend to always get them for under $1.

We wait and use whatever from the hospital first . DS never fit in NB, went straight to 1s.  DD wore NBs for months.

Last time I registered for a box of NBs and a box of 1s. Then waited to see what I liked and what worked on the kid.

My LO also grew incredibly fast, so I ended up only using one box of each size until size 3 or so.

With my first I received alot of diapers for my shower... i didn't have to buy diapers until i believe he was 6 months.  Also, I sometimes had to move up a size and saved the extras from the smaller size for when ds#2 needed them.  With this one, I plan on taking what is offered from the hospital, and buying diapers as needed.  I don't see it as an buy in advance expense. I never tried to stock up, because you never know how long  they will last in a certain size... just play it by ear...

I buy them if I have a coupon and they're on sale. So far I have 2 boxes of newborn (even though DS was 8lb 8oz at birth, he wore NB size for a few weeks) and a couple boxes of size 1. We really like Pampers so that is what we've purchased, but have the reciept if I needed to exchange/return.

We have a little stock pile going now with different sizes, only because they were on sale plus got a $30 gift card for BRU when we bought them so it was basically like buying one getting one free almost. I think I will wait until after the shower and see how much I get before buying any more but we have a pretty good start so far.

I got a ton of diapers in all sizes when I was pregnant with my girls and they were all huggies because I had coupons and huggies did not fit my kids at all.  I know it sounds weird but I swear they didn't.  I used them but as a last resort because they would always leak.  Just an FYI.  I might buy some before baby but the hospital sent us home with a bunch and then I'll send DH out.  I have a feeling this baby is going to be big and won't be in newborn for long.

Best tip- if you have Amazon prime set up for automatic delivery on the diapers you use.  They arrive on your door step every month, no shipping and you get a discount.  You can also use your coupons.  Amazing deal and no need to worry about it.

I just bought $200 worth of BumGenius diapers.  It was an investment, so it will force me to be committed to cloth diapering this go around.

For those going with sposies, I agree you should wait until you see what fits your baby best, but if you are a couponer and find a great deal, I wouldn't pass it up, either.  Pampers NB are really versatile and amazing.

Stock piling diapers can be risky, but I know people who have saved thousands of dollars that way.  You can always exchange diaper sizes (though not brands) at the store you purchased them at.

I buy them when they're on sale.  I 15 weeks and already have two boxes of NB diapers.

And re: brand, it does not matter.  Your baby won't care what brand of diaper he poops in.

No, they won't care what brand, but some babies have a sensitivity to certain diapers. Or some diapers might not fit your LO. DS was in pampers for size 1's and fine and when we switched to size 2, he leaked through every diaper. They just didn't fit him correctly. We switched to Huggies for size 2's and he was fine.

With my 1st pregnancy, we started buying diapers early in the 2nd tri, and just bought a pack each time we were at the store, or when they were on sale.  We stocked up on 1 box of newborns, and a few boxes each of size 1 and 2.  It was great b/c we spent that money early and spread it out so it didn't hurt so much.  We didn't have to buy diapers at all while I was on maternity leave, which was really nice.

This time (2nd pregnancy), I haven't been on the ball.  I've purchased a box of newborn diapers and a smaller package of size 1 and 2, but haven't gotten much further.  Mostly just because I haven't had the chance.  I try to make a point to buy diapers for baby when I buy diapers for DD though.
