back pain remedies

The last week or so I've had back pain;mostly soreness/stiffness. Today it's extremely sore and achy on my lower right side so much that i can barely move. Anyone have any recommendations for streches that might help? I'm going to try a hearing pad when i get home tonight.

I was going to suggest a heating pad. I use one pretty frequently. Love it!

My Dr. advises a heating pad on low is fine and not for long periods of time.

As far as stretchs go - I stretch every morning while laying in bed and it has made a HUGE difference in how my back feels. Here are a few that I do:

1) Butterfly stretch while laying flat on my back instead and tucking my chin towards my chest. Do this 2-3 times.

2)  laying flat on your back, legs straight, now bring  both legs toward you bending the knees. Now grab those knees with you hands and pull them as far forward toward you as you can. Hold for a few seconds, let the legs back down to straight again, slowly. Do this 2-3 times. Again tuck your chin to stretch deeper.

3) laying flat on your back lift your but up and hold for several seconds. Do this 2-3 times.

Finally I sit up

4) and stretch my arms and neck... these have worked wonders for me. GL!

ETA: I just started doing #2 above along with arm and neck stretches before bed too so no idea if it helps much or not... but worth a try :)

My OB said a heating pad on my back was fine (just not the abdomen). He also said I could use any sort of hot/cold cream as long as it didn't have any ibprofen in it. I used to use the SalonPas patches, but one of the ingredients contains ibprofen. He said he ddin't think the icy hot patches did, but I haven't checked since I haven't been in pain lately.

YOGA!!

I have a bad back as it is. Now that I'm pregnant it got worst very early in my pregnancy.

I did yoga before I was pregnant and it helped my back a lot. I started doing prenantal yoga 6 weeks ago and I haven't complained about my back since then.

Give it a try, it also help with stress and it gives you time to escape from everything.

Ditto the yoga!

Also, I find that the stretch where you lie on your back, bend your right knee (foot on the floor), and cross your left ankle over your right thigh, and then pull the right thigh towards you (if that makes sense?) really helps loosen up my hips and lower back. Once you've done one side, switch.
