Adolfo?

Not KU, just trying to work my way through the bit of baby fever I am having as my LO approaches her 1st birthday.

LO is named after my FIL-- he was Jose.  I would like to incorporate a name from my family next go 'round-- most likely in the MN spot.

My paternal grandfather's name was Adolfo.  Is that too....Hitler-y??

Other family names in play:

Giovanna (love, but if we have a boy we would use Giovanni-- and that rhymes with our LN-- big deal or no?)

Roberto (dad's name-- parents are un- amicably divorced so worried it might hurt my mom's feelings)

 Any thoughts?

We like really traditional first names, FYI (Mary, Elizabeth, Frances)

I wouldn't use it for a first name.

I personally wouldn't use it.  I would however use Roberto if you are still close to your dad.  If not, then I probably wouldn't.  I don't really like Giovanni for a boy.

Sorry, reading fail.

I think it would be perfectly fine in the MN spot if you're using it to honor family. I also *really* like Giovanna/Giovanni, and I don't think it's an issue that it rhymes with your last name if it's the MN.

I'm sorry, but Hitler was my first thought.  What about his MN? Or what about your maternal grandfather's name.  I like Roberto, if you are close to your dad.  Regardless of the divorce, your dad is still your dad.

Honestly, I didn't even notice the o and thought "Hitler? Why in God's name, why would anybody consider Adolf?" So yes, too Hitler-y even for a mn IMO.

Ugg, I know-- it really bad, right?

I am close with my dad, Roberto/a is def on the table.  I was closer with my pat grandfather which is why I thought about using his name.

Another question is anyone is up for it.  Grandpa Adolfo actually went by a NN-- Delfo (DELL- foe). What do we think of NNs in the MN spot?  Weird or no?

OpI can sympathize where you are coming from! My grandpa's mn was Adolf. He and I were very close and I would love to honor him but I just can't. It's also a multiple offender in our family tree way back.

As far as the nn ideamy cousin gave her son her dad's nn Geno as a mn and it works for him but he has a non traditional fn and a very German ln.

Yes, Adolfo is too "Hitler-y" in my opinion.  That was my first thought when I read the title of the post.

I think Giovanna is beautiful.  Doesn't bother me that Giovanni would rhyme with the LN.

I don't think it's completely terrible in the mn spot but it wouldn't be on the top of my list. I LOVE Giovanni and Giovanna LOVE LOVE LOVE.  I kept wanting to use it for a fn but my husband felt it was just a little too much with our very Italian last name. (Which is why I think I love it)

I guess that was my concern too-- that it was over the top.

Thank you for all of the feedback-- I really appreciate everyone's opinions.  We are team "don't share the name" so I love that this board is here!

I mean, Hitler doesn't OWN the name Adolf. I'll bet if you do a history google, you can find some GOOD people who had that name.

You could modify the spelling and go with Adolpho if you wanted?

Big time lurker here but felt I had to chime in. My father's name was Adolfo and it never hindered him. Actually I think it helped him when he was in sales because no one could ever forget his name :)  when my son was born I gave him two middle names one being Adolfo. My son is very proud of his big name and introduces himself with all four of his names and people never question the Adolfo. I hope that helps.

My great Uncle's name was Adolf and he went by Dolph and Dophie.

I think NN in the MN spot to honor a family member is fine. People use weirder names than Delfo in the MN spot.  I'd say go for that or Roberto.
