Sonogram Parties (for reals)

You know how with all the baby-related AW events like "gender reveals" (and for God's sake, it's a SEX reveal, not gender!) we're always asking "When will it end?" For your viewing pleasure, enter the "sonogram party."

That's so 2012!! By the end of 2013 the trend would "pee parties" to guess if the woman is pregnant or not, you invite your friends, and pee on a stick in front of them and let the friends bet on the results by bringing diapers or booze depending on what their guess is, and reveal it to them in real time that you are pregnant!

Well, this kind of $hit will only continue as long as there are people who really do 'care" enough to attend parties like this.  OR realize that "Oh, it's just an invitation.  I can say "no" if I don't want to go!!".

I just don't get why people really think their lives are THIS important to the rest of the world.  I really don't.

I like the concept, but I think the name should be changed to "Bibs or Booze?" It's catchier. And you know people totes want to shell out more for gifts when you use alliteration. Or better yet a poem. Ballsox, your next poem is called "Bibs or Booze?" Aaaaand go.

That's just silly. Whatever happened to just showing the u/s pictures to the people who are interested after it happens? The idea of having an audience present during one of my ultrasounds just makes me cringe a little.

Holy crap, is nothing sacred anymore?  People will do anything for attention these days.  Will they be sending out invites to the TTC sessions as well?  Geez.

Imma just going to sit here and seethe at the stupidity while quietly laughing at the "Bibs or Booze?" party idea.

Thanks for suggesting a better name, I just couldn't come up with a better name! Like the Bibs or Booze!!  What will be funny if someone from the NYT would be looking for volunteers who had a Bibs or Booze party to get their personal story to publish!! (like the sprinkle story they ran last month!)

WTF?  They are medical procedures, not a form of entertainment.  I also do not care enough about anyone else's pregnancy to ever attend one of these "parties".

Gross.

Thank you for pointing out that it is a sex reveal, not gender. I think it's the psych classes that stuck with me, but this has always annoyed me endlessly.

With that said, I'm invited to an OMGcake cutting "gender" reveal in March!

Like mention in the article what if they find something wrong with the baby etc. I just do not think something like this should be done at a "party."  Like someone mention where does it stop next is a pee on the stick party or cheer us on while we have baby sex. It seems like another way for folks to make money and folks by into it trying to be "different".

All this crap is so over the top. Both my mother and grandmother (who is 92) can't even believe that people wear fitted clothing to show they are even pregnant. My grandmother was telling me that you just wore giant tent outfits everywhere and said nothing about being pregnant. She even chided me for rubbing my belly, saying it was "low class". I haven't had the heart to try to explain gender reveals to her. Stick out tongue

Haha, this is just too much!

My Mom keeps asking me about the next u/s because she wants more pictures of the baby for a scrapbook. Yup, not even out of 1st trimester and grandma is starting a scrapbook! Got to love the enthusiasm.

This.  I did have an ultrasound where no heartbeat was found and I was told it was a missed m/c.  I couldn't imagine having other people witness the heartbreak.

Ok, I read the entire thing.

People are just so over the top, AWs anymore. I really find it astounding and cannot even swallow what it is like to be such a drama queen.

I am so, so over the gender reveals. No one cares, seriously. No one except your mom and your BFF. Trust me.

O.M.G.  Just ridiculous that someone would even think something like this would be in the least bit interesting to someone else (other than the FTB or GTB maybe) and the aspect of there being sad/bad news just makes it more ridiculous.  We live in such a me - me - me society.  Scary really because there is probably no end to this kind of stuff.

this may be an UO, but i blame pinterest for a majority of this over the top bullsh!t. i had never even heard of a "gender reveal" party until i saw it on pinterest, then saw the same bullsh!t ideas from pinterest reproduced 10,000 times in my facebook news feed (box of blue/pink balloons, cake or cupcake colored pink or blue, etc)... then people try to out-do their friends with stuff like a sonogram party. ("karen did the balloons in a box, so i have to do something better... i know! i'll have all my friends watch my sonogram! that'll blow karen's party away!") it's the same ol crap. you go to these parties, learn the sex, then what? does everyone just go home? seriously, nobody cares that much. to me, it's parental AW-ing at it's finest.

end rant.

I just threw up in my mouth a little. The ONLY people who saw my u/s pics outside of me and DH are my parents because they are the only other people who care. I also don't post any of that stuff to FB. Let's face it, u/s pics are generally creepy, unintelligible (WTF am I looking at??), or both. No need to inflict that on others.

I think this is really cute.  I've worked really hard to make sure my ute looks perfect, and I think it's a shame that I only get to show it off to some u/s tech.  This circumvents the whole "2 person in the room" rule.  Score!  And I might get some presents out of it.

Also, thank you to the PP who pointed out that its a sex reveal, not a gender reveal.  That is something that bothers me to no end (though I'm at the point where I've just about given up trying to correct people!).

Ha! That's stupid.

We were Team Green and people thought we knew and were lying. I told SO that we should have a cake cutting....and then cut into a cake with yellow or green inside just to see how they would react. Jokes on them!

Wow. That is totally ridiculous. After going through infertility and losses, I was really scared before every one of my ultrasounds, because I was worried that something would be wrong. I refused to even tell my parents and in-laws what days the appointments were scheduled, because I couldn't handle having people waiting to get a phone call with the results. I can not imagine having a party for a medical procedure!
