Prilosec

Hello,

I already completed a 14 day round of Prilosec and it worked like a charm.

But the heartburn has kicked into high gear again....feels like a 10 pound weight on my chest (besides the baby!)

My husband said that sometimes you can take another round if needed....has anyone had to do this?

(I will be seeing my dr. tomorrow and will ask but thought I would get some feedback here)

TIA!

I take Zantac at least once a day and I use Tums all time.  What I hate the most is in the middle of the night sometimes I have to shoot up to a sitting position because things were coming back up while I slept.  Talk about a burning acid feeling.

My OB advised me to continue taking the Prilosec beyond the initial 14 day round as it was working well and controlling my heartburn. Definitely check with your OB, but it should be fine to keep taking it.... Heartburn had been excruciating before it, I was taking 10+ Tums a day and it still wasn't enough. I was even sleeping on my couch because I couldn't lay down in bed!

Hope you can continue the Prilosec and that it is helpful!

I was on it for 60 days when I wasn't pregnant. You might check about Zantac I'm taking 150 mg of it twice daily

I'm on twice a day doses of Zantac 150 and it works like a charm, this is my second month on it and I have only had 2 occurences where I needed to also pop a few tums.   My OB prescribed it for me and I think it costs a whopping $0.60 a month for me!

I took it on an as needed basis my whole pregnancy, which worked out to be about once a week for me.

Btw, I'm not usually one for old wives tales... but at least 4 nurses said this was the most hairy baby they had ever seen!!

I took Prilosec before pregnancy for GERD. Zantac worked til about 18 weeks. Then I got put on Prevacid. Same drug class (PPI) but it's a category B vs a category C (prilosec). Both work equally as well. When my insurance wouldn't cover the Prevacid I was told Prilosec was fine since I was in the 2nd trimester but just went and bought the Prevacid OTC. They're both sold in 14 day courses but if you look you'll see they actually sell like 3 packs of the 14 days (so 42 pills).

I was on Prilosec most of my pregnancy with DD and most of this one so far, my Dr says it's fine.

As far as the heartburn=a hairy baby, I have some recollection of reading an article when I was pregnant w/DD saying that there was a hormonal connection.....but the details of it completely escape me right now......

Though, despite horrible heartburn most of my pregnancy w/DD she was nearly bald
