maddie&stephen:No on both accounts in my opinion. The only thing I would suggest is a soft blanket to bring with you to help make the bottom bassinet pad softer. Our LO had a hard time adjusting from her crib to the pack & play on the road but we just tuck the blanket under the corners of the pad and it makes it much softer-more like her firm mattress.
