Feeding Schedule

My LO is 10 weeks today and i am getting annoyed at her eating schedule, which right now is whenever time of the day.  Do any of you have your LO's on some kindof schedule for feeding.  It is so unpredictable right now.  We have a set schedule for bed time and nap time and wonder if a feeding schedule is good to introduce right now?  It would be nice for her to eat at the same time every day.  Of course, I will feed her when she wants it and would never make her wait if she were hungry.  How do I start to introduce this.  BTW...we are EFF.

It can take quite a while to get a schedule in place. W is 3.5 mo and we're just starting to figure out a loose routine. Start taking notice of her feedings and see if there are any that happen consistently day to day. If you can identify 1 or 2 times that pretty constant, work backwards from there. Unfortunately it just takes time for babies to settle into a rhythm and your LO is still going through a lot of growth spurts so that would probably screw up a schedule anyways if you did have one.

I sort of "reset" my two each day with their first AM feeding. I BF and bottle feed (formula and breast milk) and they eat about every 3 hours during they day. You could try this too with formula.

6:30am - 7:30am - I nurse them even if that means I set my alarm clock for 7:30am. If their last middle of the night feeding was before 6:30am, I nurse them again at 7:30am to "top them off". If your DD is waking to eat around 5am/6am, you could make another bottle (maybe just 2oz or so) to top her off. From there, they eat about every 3 hours. This keeps them on somewhat of a schedule.

9:30am - 10:30am - bottle

12:30pm - 1:30pm - bottle

3:30pm - 4:30pm - bottle

6:30pm - 7:30pm bottle

Bedtime

Then I nurse them once or twice during the night when they wake and "reset" them again between 6:30am - 7:30am the next day.

E was on some what of a schedule but since he has hit 2 months he is so unpredictable.

Some days he eats fairly normal. Every 3-4 hours, and some days he is hungry all the time and seems like he is eating none stop.
I find when he is going through a growth spurt he is all over the place.

I know with my sisters LO when she was younger she was the same. Just unpredictable. She said a routine really didn't get established fully until about 4months. And even then there were off days.

My LO is 6 weeks old and have a set bedtime schedule that only varies by as much as an hour if we got off schedule with his feedings because he got hungry. We try and stick to a 4 hour feeding schedule during the day and only let him dictate when he gets fed at night.

The way we pushed his feedings from 2-3 hours to 4-5 after his one month appointment was that when he would start to act hungry we would play with him and interact with him/comfort him when he would start acting hungry/crying until it had been 4 hours. It only took him a day or two for him to get the hang of it and stick to the schedule by himself.

My daughter is 8 weeks and we have her on a feeding schedule.  She gets a bottle every 3 hours.  Sometimes we let it go to 4 hours if she isn't fussing or sometimes we give it to her at 2.5 because she's fussing and wants it.  It definitely feels like all we're doing is feeding her because it takes about an hour to finish a bottle, but it's worth it.  The doctor advised that we do this to straighten out her days/nites and also to keep her sugar up (only in the beginning).

I think it's pretty easy to introduce.  Just take notice of the time you start the first bottle, and then 3 hours later (or 4 hours depending on the hunger level) start the next feeding.  If LO is sleeping, wake them for a bottle.  Do this all day until the last feeding time (for us, around 9, 10, 11 pm) and once LO goes to sleep don't give another bottle until they wake up (which will hopefully be the next morning).  For us it worked great and our daughter sleeps through the nite most nites.

Good luck!
