closed vagina?

my dd is 9 mos, and i remember at her 6 month appointment the ped said that her vagina was slightly closed but it was nothing to be concerned about it will open up on its own and that it is common with girls.   Shes went to her 9 mo appointment today and he mentioned it again. Ive never heard of this before?  he said once the females start to produce their own estrogen it starts to open up. in extreme cases the baby is perscribed estrogen cream to rub onto the vag to open it up.  Has this happened to anyone else before?

DD was diagnosed at 2 months with this. As I understand, it should resolve on its own over time. I plan on asking the pedi about it at her yearly check ups.

DD was diagnosed at 6mo. We were prescribed estrogen cream and told it would continue to fuse if we didn't use it (which I did see happening).  We've used the cream a couple of times since then (whenever I notice it starting to adhere again).  I also use Aquaphor on her at least once a day.

Boys can get penile adhesions just as easily! Especially if they're circumcised.

OP, from what I read this can usually clear itself up, but if you notice infection or a complete adhesion you'll need to use estrogen cream.

Both boys are circ'd and neither had this issue.

if it stays fused she is at a greater risk for UTIs being a girl she is already at risk. If it does not seem that urine can clear easily I would ask the doctor about this risk and see if they recommend the cream at that point. just make sure you get her good and clean. It is fairly common and has an easy fix if it does not resolve on its own.

Good luck!

When I mentioned this to my husband, he said he wished his girls would have this while in high school. What an idiot!

OP, hope it resolves itself.

She said "just as easily". It's still not very common in either gender.
