Constipation- fun

So I have this every pregnancy and its back again. I am not a super regular person to begin with but when you throw in a pregnancy my body pretty much stops going altogether. I don't have trouble going. I just don't need to go. Like ever. Maybe 2-3 times a week and its very little output even then.

I'm taking metamucil. I've bought some fiber tablets as well. I've been eating more yogurt and bowls of high-fiber cereal. I'm not really sure what else to do!

I came across some info that Magnesium (straight Mag - not Milk of Magnesia) can help dramatically with regularity. Anyone have any experience with that? Or other advice?

Have you tried just a stool softener like Docusate?  I was terribly constipated in the 1st tri with the twins, mostly because of Zofran.  I started taking a stool softener with my PNV and it helped.  I started taking one the moment I found out I was KU this time too!!

Girl, i had an impacted bowel they had to take care of as I was going into active labor for my first...o_O  My dr had recommended enemas, colace, fiber, lots of fruit. Basically downplayed it so that I felt like I was blowing it out of proportion, although I don't feel I do that normally. In any case, none of that crap (pun intended) worked for me. Coffee didn't either (although to be fair, i couldn't really drink it due to a preg aversion).

ANYWAYS,  for my first two pregnancies, i was constipated...I think I over-pee, if that makes sense.  I use Miralax as needed, and my second pregnancy went off without a hitch. You don't have to use the full dose, nor may not have to do it every day. I play it by ear.

Good luck. Being constipated is no fun.

Magnesium supplements are also good to help move things along. I take a powdered mag. supplement that I mix with water (it's flavored and delicious) for headaches, and one of the "side effects" is loosening the stools.  If you're more comfortable taking that, it definitely works.

This, exactly!  I was just doing Colace, but adding in the MiraLax helped a lot!

Ugh... I hate constipation. Yuck. My MW told me to take magnesium supplements and colace. She also suggested prunes juice or whole and grapes. She did say milk of magnesia or miralax was okay in small doses, but I haven't tried them yet... So far, I've had a little improvement. Which is better than before. Good luck :

2-3 times a week? I'm completely jealous! But I have found 1/4 cup of dried apricots, 1-2 packets of metamucil fiber cookies (I call them poopin' cookies), small cup of coffee and celery for snacking each day has really helped me out.

Yes this is a very normal issue. My doctor told me to take a stool softner. I was taking it as needed but now take it every other day; which helps. Every person's body is different so I'd try something else. Good luck!!
