What do you guys do when they fight sleep

DS2 is fighting sleep right now.  Doesn't want to nurse, doesn't want to be held or rocked or fall asleep. Just super fussy and kind of inconsolable.  We just don't know what to do when he is like this.  He has been like this since birth. We have tried numerous things to see if there was a problem so he is on reflux meds, I cut out dairy, I block feed to reduce gas and he gets gas drops and probiotics.  He has been better the last couple weeks but every once in awhile he will have these freak outs for hours. I just feel bad that we can't help him. Any suggestions?

Honestly, the only thing that I think really helps is time. Our pedi told us that week 6 is the height of fussiness, and it gradually improves until week 12, so you're pretty much right in the thick of it. Also, could he be overtired? Maybe try putting him down earlier? Good luck!

I put him in the K'Tan. Do you have a wrap that you could put him in? This always works like a charm when he fights sleep. Hang in there!

Are his probiotics dairy free?  I'd take dd potty and then put her in a carrier if she was fighting sleep.

Could be any number of things but it sounds like overstimulation to me. My son went through a period where he was like your LO. We started reducing the amount of activity and even the types of toys we used with him and it worked like a charm. Might help out a little if nothing else.

My LO was like this for a few weeks when we had out of town visitors. He just wanted to be awake where the action was and ended up over tired and over stimulated. Since they left, I make sure as soon as I see a snip of a yawn or he looks tired, to quit any stimulation and get him to sleep. Walking, bouncing and movement helped while holding him really close to my body cupping his head under my chin. We dim the lights. I'm not sure if any of that will help or not. Good luck. I know how frustrating and exhausting it is trying to help him :(

Yep, maybe try some white noise.  I find that a soothing swing or bouncer works really well to calm them down and get them to sleep.  Also sounds like your baby has some colic.  Try a bouncer or swing for resting along with white noise.  Good luck.

Our system for our 3 wk old DD is diaper, swaddle, boob, maybe a paci if she doesn't NTS. She fights the swaddle at first, so DH will swaddle her up, I'll be set up to feed with my Boppy and burp rag, and he'll immediately hand her over and I'll start feeding her.  It seems to take her mind of her freak out over the swaddle. Once she's done feeding and we put her down, she sleeps much better than if she was just in a sleeper.

Are you sure he's getting enough milk? Is he hungry? Sounds simple but that was the case with my son.....

I put DS in his halo sleep sack/swaddle and stand in the bathroom with the lights out and fan going. Sometimes I run the water too. He has a white noise machine but this works better. Putting him in the dark makes it harder for him to look around.

When I put him down for naps if he's fighting it I cover him with a blanket so he can't see. (He naps on my lap and the blanket doesn't touch his face. Similar to a nursing cover). I find once he has nothing to focus on he's out. Also patting his back really fast and really soft is like a baby sleeping pill for him.

I use the Happiest Baby on the Block 5 Ss.  And my baby is crazy for Bob Marley, so we swaddle him up, hold him on his side and dance to the music.  This is the only thing that calms him when he is so worked up in the evenings.

Good luck - I know it is heartbreaking!
