STM's- how big was your baby @ 20 wks & @ birth?

i just got back from my 20 week anatomy scan, they told me the baby was 12 ounces (im 20 wks 1 day) has anyone else had a baby that was 12 ounces, at 20 weeks? And how big was your baby at birth? I'm thinking this baby might be a little bigger than normal... thanks!

Is it bad if I don't remember what he weighed at 20 weeks?  I don't even know if they told me.  Every u/s or appointment I was told he was average or just fine.

Ultrasound sizing is notoriously wrong.  I was told my baby would be average weight - around 7lbs - and he was 8lb12oz when born.  My sister was told her baby would be in the 8lb range, and she came out at around 6lb2oz, a peanut.

I wouldn't worry about it at this stage at all.  If your baby starts to develop unnatural or fast growth, the doctors will definitely say something to you.

I cant remember my first sons weight at 20 weeks,  but they did kept telling me he was very small through the whole pregnancy.  They even kept moving my due date later.  He was born at 37 weeks, and weighed 6.2. I he would have been full term  he probably would have been pretty large.

This. I don't ever remember getting told a size estimate with DD. For our a/s at around 19w, the tech said baby was weighing approximately 9oz and that it was fine. There's a large range of what is "normal," so I wouldn't worry about it. I was HUGE with DD and she was only 5lb9oz at birth. Nothing wrong with a petite baby, and nothing wrong with a bigger one!

This. I was induced at 38 weeks because I was told that DD was too small and only 5lbs. She was born at 6lbs 1oz and perfectly healthy. Ultrasounds are almost always wrong when it comes to size.

All of this! I have no recollection whatsoever about what Charlie weighed at the 20 week u/s, but the doctors will tell you if you're off track for growth.

FWIW, I had my 20 week yesterday and the bean is measuring 10oz (but again, u/s weights are notoriously off). She said it was measuring exactly up to my due date, so I'm guessing that's about the 50%ile.

I lost my son at 20w4d and he weighted 13.5 oz and was 10.5 inches long at birth.  I think he was on the 'big' end of the spectrum.

ETA: The loss was due to PTL and he was perfectly healthy.  Just thought I'd add that because I didn't want you think that I was correlating him being 'big' with the loss.

DD1 was estimated 13 oz at 20 weeks. She was born at 39 weeks, 6 lbs 15 oz. Definitely not big.

I don't remember how big he was at 20 weeks, but I do know he was measuring 9 days ahead. At birth, he weighed 9lbs 14oz (I went 3 days past my due date).

DD was 11 oz at 20 w and 8lbs 6oz at birth.

I don't think it means a darn thing though because u/s measurements are not reliable.

Utlrasound sizing is not very accurate. DS1 was born at 32 weeks. Right before I delievered the U/S sizing said he would be 3.5lbs and he was born 4lbs 11oz. When my OB told us 3.5lb he said give or take a pound. I wouldn't worry too much about how your baby is messuring unless your OB raises a concern.

Max Wyatt born 1-12-08 10:08 am: 4lbs 11 oz 16 3/4 inches. Sam Dean born 12-21-09 7:36 am: 8lbs 7 oz 19 3/4 inches.

I don't remember getting a size estimate when we had DS- just that he was normal.  He was 8lb2oz when he was born.

At 20 weeks, I think I remember DS being 11.5 oz. At birth (41w2d), he was 8 lbs, 12.8 oz.

I put zero stock in ultrasound weights.  At 37 weeks with DD, I was told she was already over 8lbs so they stripped my membranes.  When she was born 3 days later, they were shocked to catch a 5lb baby.  And I was pissed.

I don't remember what my son weighed at 20wks, but I know he was about 1.5wks behind in measurements. He was born at 41wks 6.6 pounds. This baby was 8oz at 19.4wks and is also measuring a week behind. I carry smaller babies.

Surprisingly I remember this.  DS was 12 ounces at my anatomy scan and I was 21 weeks. I was induced due to pre-e at exactly 37 weeks and he was 5lbs 7 oz. I was told by my MFM that the pre-e could have cause his growth to slow down.  FWIW, I think 12 oz is the average at 20 weeks.

ETA:  I think I'm in the minority here that my growth scan was accurate.  The tech estimated him to be 5.5 lbs at my 36 week scan and a week later that's how much he weighed at birth.  But as PP's have said u/s measurements can be off +/- a pound or more.

I just read a post where someone's LO was 15 oz. at 20 weeks, so I don't think you should put much into the fact that yours is 12 oz. Besides, these u/s estimates have been known to be very inaccurate.

@ 20 weeks my u/s said that my baby weighed 13 oz. Dr. said I would probably have a big baby since my glucose test was fine. I'm not going to worry since sometimes the u/s can be wrong.
