Traveling for work?

I am a Marketing Manager for a chemical company and a part of my job is traveling to tradeshows.  I have 3 coming up in the next few months and am just about 6 weeks along.  One of the shows is in Dallas and the other two are in Vegas! - I would be ~11 weeks at the Vegas ones and am worried about the smokey casinos.  I've been to Vegas lots of times and know that they pump a lot of air into the casinos but being at a tradeshow where I need to wine and dine customers is making me worried.  I haven't told my boss or coworkers I'm preggs yet.  Am I being paranoid about being around all the smoke??

Secondhand smoke is bad for anyone, pregnant or not, so I don't think you're being paranoid.

Can you choose a smoke free restaurant?  I feel your pain. At a trade show in Europe last time I ended up at a business dinner in a smokey restaurant and it was terrible. I ended up staying since there were so many big wigs there, but pretended I was cold and tried to breathe through my scarf when I could. Looking back, I wish I had just left, but it's so tough in those situations!

I never found smoke to be a big issue in Vegas (outside of going clubbing). It's really only on the casino floor and they do pump in a ton of fresh air. If you're the one doing the wining and dining, you'll have more control over the atmosphere.

While exposure to second hand smoke isn't ideal, a weekend or two of it won't be a big deal in the long run...it's long-term exposure that does any real damage. Just try to keep it to a minimum, choose non-smoking areas where you can and try to get outside for some fresh air as often as possible.

I do sympathize with you having to deal with that, I forget that not everywhere is like here in BC, Canada where smoking is not allowed in any public places whatsoever. I almost forget what it was like to go out to a restaurant or bar and come out smelling like the inside of a cigarette pack!
