What does cradle cap look like at first?

When I got DD up this morning, I noticed little flakes all throughout her hair. (She's 5 weeks old) There's nothing scaly or red, just little flakes here and there. Is this how cradle cap starts? The doctor told us we could give her a bath every other day so I've been washing her hair every other day as well. Should I wash it more or less? TIA!

For us, craddle cap was just scales on the scalp, not red, just scaly. It was very stuck to his scalp and not really in his hair. Yours could possibly be dry skin from over washing??

At 5 weeks old, we bathed our son every 2-3 days, not every other day. For the craddle cap, we put baby oil on his head then brushed with his soft baby brush then washed his hair. He had it for months but the baby oil finally worked. It might look icky but it's not harmful and very normal.

I agree with PP. All three of our kids have gotten cradle cap to some degree. To me it feels oily and looks crusty and sometimes a yellowish color (DD got a horrible patch once she had longer hair- it was harder to get her to sit still long enough to really clean down to the scalp). We use olive oil, massage it in then let it sit for a few minutes to really soften the scales, then I comb out the scales with a fine tooth comb. For us that usually cleared it up within a week.

DD #2 is currently looking flaky but it is definately due to dry skin, not cradle cap. We only bath her every 3 days but she still has little flakes all over her poor head.

Could be just dry skin. Try only bathing every 2-3 days. Babies really don't get dirty. Just wash her face and hands daily with a wet wipe and bath every 2-4 days. My DS gets bathed every 3 sometimes 4 days. We wash his face/neck/hands every morning and evening with a wet wipe.
