Sleep when they sleep?

I get about 4 hours of sleep a night now.  I have 5 week old twins boys.  My husband and I toggled off when they first came home. Now he is back to work and I am watching them full-time on the days he works.  I was told that I should just sleep when they sleep.  I have never been able to sleep when my kids slept.  If it isn't at night. So I end up looking like a zombie towards the end of the day.

Anyone else or am I just a freak?

I was like this with my twins at first then I started forcing myself to take a nap. Our new little one is two weeks today and I haven't really napped with her, but I'm getting way more sleep this time around. The newborn phase with twins is ROUGH!

I've never been able to sleep when my kids sleep unless at night. Normally its because I'm thinking about how by the time I fall asleep they will wake up so eh bother. That and I am a cranky bish when I wake up from a nap.

I haven't been able to do it.  I think I only did it twice, with the exception of over night.  My mind races too much with all the crap that needs to get done.

I find this to be impossible. My 7 week old has reflux and sleeps best on his side. I only allow this during the day on my lap across his boppy. I can't sleep sitting up so I am usually watching tv during his naps. He's due for an up in his dosage so he's up every two hours at night. I'm very tired. When his meds re adjusted he sleeps much better at night and so do I.

My DD is 5 weeks old and I can't do it. I have to get to that point of absolute exhaustion before I can nap during the day. I feel your pain!

I haven't really been able to with either of my kids either.  With my first I couldn't relax knowing I had laundry, dishes, vacuuming etc.  With this one I have all that plus a 3 1/2 year old that is like an energizer bunny.

I don't sleep during the day with my 5 week old. Like others, when he is sleeping I am thinking, finally! I can do the dishes or take a shower, or check my work e-mail. Thankfully he does ok at night and DH has been home a lot to help with the overnights but I hear ya its tough enough with one. i can't imagine doing this with two.

Twins! Wow, I can only imagine how hard that must be. Everyone I met said to "sleep when the baby sleeps" but I ended up laying there awake listening for a cry! I never got much sleep either because I could never relax long enough. Wish I would have because I would have been much happier in the beginning.

I was always a light sleeper and NOT a napper by any means. I had a really hard time napping during the day when the babies arrived - I would only do it when I reached the point of being so exhausted I was nauseous. You're not alone! I don't nap at all now but their night time routine is a lot easier. They go down around 9pm and usually wake up twice during the night to nurse (sometimes I'll get lucky and it's only once). They're pretty quick and we're usually done and back to bed within 30 minutes.

I think I read in one of your other posts that you were BF them. Do you tandem nurse or at least make sure if one of them wakes at night, that you're waking and feeding the other one too? DS is my "squeaky wheel" and is always the first to wake but I always wake his sister (much as I hate to do that) and feed her then as well to avoid having her wake 30 minutes after I put him back down and go to sleep.

Hang in there!

I don't have twins but I can't sleep when DS sleeps either. There's either too much to do or I'm not tired. It sucks because I'm exhausted later in the day when DS1 comes home from DC.

I can't sleep during the day. I did manage to nap towards the end of my pregnancy, though. Now, however, it doesn't matter how exhausted I am. I cannot fall asleep during the day when she is sleeping.

My twins are 6 weeks and I'm actually here on the bump because I just got up from laying with my eyes squeezed shut for ten minutes to no avail. :)

Yeah right.  If I'm not waiting for a cry then I'm doing laundry, washing bottles, cleaning the house, and if I'm lucky showering or eating. One day I asked DH to take pic of me holding DD ( thought I might finally look decent enough to do so) and boy was it depressing how I looked like an actual zombie.

I decided that "sleep when they sleep" was the most annoying phrase at about 2 weeks pp lol.  Everyone told me this, and it just wasn't possible for me either.

I can't either. Once the sun is up, I can't sleep. I at least try to rest when he sleeps, but half the time I end up cleaning the house because I can't stand mess or clutter. The past few days however, I've made a point of putting my feet up, having a tea, and reading during his longest nap of the day.

I tried tandum but I was over stimulated.  One of my breasts has a weird nipple and my boys won't latch on it.  I have been supplementing as well. Trying to remember to pump with a toddler, 2 babies, 3 dogs and a husband is insane!

I've been trying to sleep when my ds sleeps. Especially since he has been waking up and staying awake 1am-5am for the past few days. I haven't been very successful at all. I can manage to sleep in until around 11am but then I am awake until bedtime.

Nope, can't do it. Unless someone else is around, like DH or MIL or something I don't even try. Even then it's not likely I can actually fall asleep. I've never been a napper and with the added anxiety of a baby to think about, forget it.

Edited to fix Bump mobile issues.

I'm having a really hard time trying to sleep during the day but if tonight goes as poorly as the last few I really need to make more of an effort tomorrow because I can't keep going like this!
