Madelyn

I've seen posts where the the spelling of Madelyn is debated.  How else can it be spelled and still sound like Ma-de-lyn?  Fwiw, we only know one and this is how her name is spelled.  TIA!

Our DD is Madeleine, pronounced with the -Lynn ending.  Everyone (except my SIL) has always pronounced it correctly.

I know two babies named Madeline, pronounced Mad/eh/lynn

I still think Madeline is better as Mad/eh/line

My grandmother was Madeline and it was pronounced the way you want it.

Madeline: http://www.behindthename.com/name/madeline

Madeleine: http://www.behindthename.com/name/madeleine

Both give the pronunciation you want.  I don't like changing up the spelling.

I think that the Madelyn spelling is the Americanized spelling of the French name Madeleine.  Both are pronounced MAD - uh- LIN

I believe Madeline is pronounced MAD- uh- LINE (like the children's book)

That's interesting, I always pronounced Madeleine Mad/eh/Len or Layne but not Lynn - but I'm not French so I'm not familiar with French vowel sounds.

Madeleine and Madeline are other spellings, but Madeline always makes me think mad-uh-LINE like the book character. I prefer Madelyn.

I agree with pp's. Madeline looks better and will still be pronounced correctly by most people. Any name can be mispronounced...my name Is Jenna Jen na and people who dont know me and read my name call me Gina jeana ... and my name is pretty standard!
