Stims question

Sorry to post again, I guess I just have a lot on my mind today.

Do you inject yourself or does DH do it for you?? I'm not afraid of needles but the thought of giving myself shots freaks me out a bit. Any tips to make it easier??

Thanks!!

My DH did mine last time.  He really didn't give me a choice.  I'm glad because I think I would chicken out too much and cause too many issues.  I really liked it because I could watch the whole process (knowing I wasn't responsible) and I could visibly watch to ensure it went completely in, etc.  I sat on a stool and DH stood on his knees. He was nervous the first few nights but then we got a hang of it. :)     This time I might stand up. I don't know.  Curious to see what other ladies say!

I injected myself. DH couldn't even stand to be in the same room while I did it. I wouldn't have let him anyway. I like the control of it. To make it easier...just do it quick, don't hesitate, just get it over with. I almost had a panic attack during my first one and when it was over I felt silly because it wasn't bad at all!

I've done all my own shots.  I felt better being in control of it (plus I'm a nurse, so it made sense).  The first one of IVF 1 was bad, as were the last couple days-I just had a ton of anxiety.  IVF2 was not near as bad-dare I say almost easy?  To get through the shots, I turned on music as a distraction.  It helped me not focus so much on what I was doing, and if I was having a rough time, I'd tell myself Okay at the end of this phrase/bar/beat-do it!  Good luck!

DH always does my trigger shots and he'll be doing my IVF shots too (unless it's mid day then I guess I'm screwed). Once I tried to do the trigger myself and I ended up bleeding and bruised. I really butchered myself. :-/

I do mine myself. DH does my IM PIO as its kinda hard to reach. I just recently found that it was easier for me to sit down. I thankfully don't have much stomach fat (it all goes to my hips:-() so when I sit I get a little roll of skin and fat that's easier to inject into. Only other advice is just to go for it. The more you fuss with it and try to ease it in the harder it is.

Thanks for that tip - my stomach is on the flatter side too and I thought maybe I should lay down (I'm not sure why I thought that would be a good idea).

I give them to myself. I like to relax in the recliner. I give themin my stomach because I have plenty of fat and feel that would be less painful than my thigh.

I gave myself my follistim and ovidrel shots, but with the IVF my husband is going to give me the PIO shots as I don't think I could stand to do it.

I am curious about the menopur and lovenox, if they are similar to the size of the ovidrel needle or are bigger?  And where do they go?  Stomach? Thigh?

i did allow my husband to give me one of my ovidrel's one time, and he freaked me out with it (he put it in, pulled it out to make sure it was in, then put it in again) so that was the last time i let him. :)  Can't wait for PIO. :O

DH did mine.  The reason was twofold.  1: I'm really afraid of needles and 2: It made him feel involved.

Ice the area first, lie down while he gives the injection and get yourself some bandaids that make you smile :-)

My husband is a volunteer firefighter/EMT and I still don't like him drawing up or injecting me unless absolutely necessary. Call me a control freak, but I guess I just like to be in charge. I do my morning injections (Lupron for almost a month now! EW!), and have DH do the night injections (Stims) -- it's too much for me. Injection in the am, US and BW mid day, Stims at night... too too much. He does night time only; and as stated above, it makes him feel involved.

Mine liked to do it to feel involved. He was bruising me by pinching to hard so we had to work on that. I don't like doing it, I have to work myself up to it and make myself count and go on 1,2,3. It's not bad, but sometimes we tend to make it worse than it really is. Although when I get to PIO there's no way I could do those, they scare the hell out of me!

I injected Menopur in my tummy, Follistim and Cetrotide in my thighs. I didn't want to associate my DH with pain, so I never asked him to inject me. Also, I thought about triggering myself b/c DH was out of town but a fellow IVFer's hubby did it for me. You should be fine. It's more convenient if you can do it without the DH's help.

Love the idea of getting bandaids that make you smile. :) So icing beforehand is okay? I'm new to all of this.

I give myself all of my SubQ shots in the stomach (Menopur, Bravelle, Ganerelix) and Hubby gives me my IM shots (trigger, PIO) in my backside, simply because it's an inconvenient reach.

Rosy, I personally don't find a need to waste time icing. If it helps you, then go for it. The one shot it is not recommended for is the PIO, simply because the cold makes it harder to inject. Instead, with PIO, you want to warm the oil in your hands before injecting. Also, keep in mind, everyone reacts differently. For me, the Menopur & Bravelle were fine, but the Ganarelix burned and itched for about 30 minutes afterward. Good luck!

Did every single one myself. I was freaked out at first too, but watched some YouTube videos and after the first one, it really wasn't as bad as I thought it was. Just got into a routine of it. Tried not to think about it too much and just did them. No icing or heat packs. Just looked in the mirror and alternated sides each day.

2nd ectopic resulted in loss of tube. HSG revealed remaining tube is "severely torqued".

I do all my own shots but I am a diabetic so I am very used to needles and drawing up meds. My husband did my PIO shot because I simply couldnt reach but now I am on Endometrin because I started developing hard lumps and had really bad bruising. Kinda wishing I could go back to the PIO because the Endometrin is really gross...much easier but gross.

I do it. Dh is too much of a wimp. Lol. He did it once. It was hilarious. His family farms so he was like "It's just like doing it to a cow!" Hmm  Lol! For starters, it is totally NOT like doing it to a cow. Totally different technique. After that he hemmed and hawed about doing it. Something about "I can't stab my wife with a needle...." So while he was complaining I did it. He kind of freaked out about that too because it took him by surprise. It's quite entertaining for me.

Don't build it up too much in your head. Just take a breath and do it. The first one is always the hardest. IM shots are worse than sub-q. If you're nervous about doing it right you can look at YouTube videos. If you have to do IM shots it's usually easier for someone else to do them for you (they hurt a little more and have to go further in - plus some Drs (like mine) make you do them in your lower back / bottom which is just plain awkward on yourself).

TTC #1 for Dh, #2 for me. HSG clear. Low AMH and endo. Multiple Clomid w/TI cycles - all BFNs. 2 IUIs with Clomid and 1 with Femara - more BFNs. IVF#1 25R, 15M, 15F. 5DT of two perfect 4AA blasts! Positive HPT at 5dp5dt. Beta #1 6dp5dt - 72. Beta #2 8dp5dt - 285. Beta #3 10dp5dt - 793. Both babies have strong beautiful heartbeats! Baby B miscarried at 7 weeks. Baby A is holding on through miscarrying her twin, sub-chorionic hematoma, and complete placenta previa. Stick, baby, stick!
