MIL Gone Crazy

Ok, ladies, does anyone have a MIL who thinks she knows everything about how to handle yourself while being pregnant?

I get emails on a daily basis as to how to handle my pregnancy and my baby such as the hazards of cell phones and laptops.  I was at her house and picked up a 10 lbs. box and she reprimanded me for carrying things.  I'm sorry but I can handle it and need to keep whatever there is of my muscle tone to handle carrying the baby.  She even gave me a worksheet of how to mitigate any baby allergies by taking cat hair, stewing it, and rubbing it on the baby.  She is nuts.

How do I handle this woman?

I have no advice but I do have a crazy SIL. She tracks my pregnancy (she has 5 apps on her phone) and every time I see/talk to her it is all she wants to talk about the baby. She has two daughters of her own (7 & 10) and I think it is just because she wants another. Either way it drives me crazy because she is always telling me things to do and not to do (some of which are incorrect). The last time we were all together at my parents I was leaving and she rain outside to catch me to tell me that the baby could now hear what we were saying so we should not cuss (neither my husband nor I use an excessive amount of bad language) anymore- I just shook my head and got in the car. If I do not send her a text when within an hour of my dr appt she calls for an update… If there is a nice way to say “Back off crazy lady” I would be happy to hear it J

To add...

Ever since announcing the pregnancy people have become my advisers.

What to do, what not to do. What to get. And so on and so on. Life was so much better? calmer? easier? (not sure what the right word is) before everyone knew.

I have a really hard time with people telling what to do and how to do it. My blood boils when I have to hear "are you eating healthy?" for example. No Im starving myself and the kid! I drink alcohol and decided to become a smoker! eyeroll

Or if people tell me what to eat.

I am probably going to get extremely annoyed when the baby is actually here because this is my first. I dont have that much experience but Id like to take my time and learn things on my own. I am not going to able to deal with people telling me how to feed, what to feed, how to hold the baby, how to change a diaper!!!

Im going to take classes at the hospital from (hopefully) professionals. I dont want to hear every darn family members way of doing things.

I swear I will throw people out of my house. One of my family members offered to let me throw her out to set an example. lol

"Ok, ladies, does anyone have a MIL who thinks she knows everything about how to handle yourself while being pregnant?"

that is my mil. she can get a bit crazy...she has toned down the crazyness lately. i thought i was the only one who got reprimanded for picking up a light box. she drives me nuts some times... all you can really do is smile, nod, and politely (as possible) let her know that you appreciate her concern and advice but you know how to take care of yourself and your baby.

Yes, yes she is nuts. What a crazy person. I am familiar with all the stuff before the allergy stuff, that's just...weird and creepy.

Like PP said: Smile and Nod. If its something about lifting or anything you are doing right there just say "My dr said this is nothing to worry about, so I'm going to listen to him/her"

my MIL is crazy, but its not with the pregnancy at all, its with how to raise DD1. everything I do is wrong. I'm not potty training correctly, I should use pull ups so her white carpet doesn't get peed on. When she was a baby I clothed her, but that was wrong too because cloth diapers get dirty. (I am not making this up). DDs hair needs to be cut (she JUST had a hair cut). Over Christmas DD had horrible diarrhea but it was ok for her to have some milk AND juice since Grandma already said it was ok. oh, and DD has a red dye intollerance but my MIL also let her eat the ONE sugar cookie with RED frosting. (luckily she did NOT have a reaction) The best part is, she tells me this is what her SIL (DH's aunt) says, not her so she tries to hide her "parenting advise" behind someone else.

oh, and DH could do NO wrong, just me.

I'm not sure what you mean by "special" but most people do get free & clear or Dreft detergent for the baby clothes.  Their skin is pretty sensitive.  Not to be a pest or anything, but that's pretty normal.

i know, I just don't want to be doing a bunch of small loads just for baby clothes and if baby gets a reaction, I'll switch, but I have no plans to in the meantime.

FWIW, you can use Free & Clear on your own clothes.  It's the same as regular detergent, it just doesn't have any dyes or fragrance.

Just to mess with her, call her and say that you were working on the allergy stuff. You skinned the cat and stewed the hair but you aren't sure what to do with the rest of the cat...
Let her freak out a little but... Try to throw in a BUT YOU TOLD ME TO DO IT in there for good measure...
