Chunk light has the lowest mercury content.

I don't understand the question.  You're asking if it's safe but then you go on to say that you've found it's safe in certain amounts.  So yes, you can eat it but limit yourself to 6 oz a week.

You can have a small amount per week, it's one of the higher mercury fish, which it sounds like you've already found out. What is your question exactly?

The day my husband ever told me no about eating something, and thereby questioning my intelligence and ability to comprehend medical and nutritional guidance, would be the start of a war.

x2.  I think this is like the second or third time I've seen a post like this this week.  WTH.  I would probably wet myself with laughter if my H told me what I could or couldn't eat or drink.  Eff that noise.

And seriously, the above doucher is "telling" her no over something that she can have.  HE is the one with the comprehension issue and I've have no issue telling my husband that.

Count me in on the "your DH is a douche canoe" train. Seriously. OP, if you are really concerned check out the brand called Wild Planet which says its lower in mercury because they select smaller fish which have less time to accumulate toxins.

WOW! I can't believe some of the replies. Seriously? She's an excited first time mom asking about something that all pregnant women should think about. And about the husband saying no, who cares! He obviously is invovled in the pregnancy and cares. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and views on what is right and wrong during pregnancy, have a little heart.

No snark - I truly don't understand what she was asking because she provided the answer we ALL know.  And the husband?  Sorry, I'm entitled to my opinion that a husband who is TELLING his wife what to do, especially when it flies in the face of medical guidance, is a diick.

Except she answered her own question.  What's the point really?  As far as the H telling the other poster what to eat goes, there's a huge difference between being involved in the pregnancy and being a controlling diick.  That's my opinion and I'm entitled to it.

Check out this website:                                                        http://www.pregnancy-calendars.net/fish.aspx#.UOZJJ46hDzI

It says 6-12oz of canned light tuna is okay. 12oz!!! That's double what you thought. Fulfill your craving. :)  Best of luck to you!

I just told my husband that I was reading online about how a woman wanted tuna but her husband wouldn't let her have any. He said, "Good for him, being a man, wearing the pants." Then he cracked up and told me not to hit him as he ducked. We've been together since the 90s, and I don't think he's ever told me I must or must not do something. Yikes. I can't even imagine living like that.

To the OP: limit your intake, or find a brand that is low mercury. If you're craving tuna salad, find another flaky fish that is lower in mercury and make a mock tuna salad with it.

Whoa gezz chill out seriously. He hates tuna. I barely like it.  It was one crazy craving that we BOTH laughed about. We compared it to eating ice cream with pickles. I've got the best husband ever, im not worried what you guys think.

Ive got the LEAST controlling husband who is the biggest sweetheart ever. He doesnt tell me what i can and cant do. It pretty funny that all you guys jump to a conclusion that he tells me what to do. He cooks for me and cleans, and does laundry and works 12 hours a day. Do any of YOUR husbands do all that? Or does your husband come home and watch football and tv all day?

Exactly.  You said you wanted something he "told" you "no."  Maybe he doesn't suck but you put it out there and based on that alone, I would have been pissed.  My husband doesn't tell me no even if I told him I wanted to eat ice cream and pickles.

Actually, he does.  Well, he doesn't do laundry, our cleaning ladies do.  And, I never have to remind him to take out the trash.  I also go get my nails done almost every weekend and he watches the baby... gif sofgif.gif
