Question about Chicco Keyfit 30

We just bought this car seat and are thinking about getting an extra base.  I was wondering if this base will work with a bigger Chicco car seat or if we will have to get new base when we get the convertible seat?  Also if you have the Chicco Keyfit 30 what car seat did you go to for the convertible?  Thanks!

I haven't used these seats yet, but I don't think there is a base for convertible car seats.  I have the keyfit 30 carriers and bases, but we got Britax convertible car seats for when they outgrow the infant carrier and I didn't see any bases for them.

After an emergency cerclage (due to incompetent cervix) and modified bed rest at 21.5 weeks, we welcomed our babies via scheduled c-section at 38.5 weeks! Truly blessed!

Thank you- I don't know why that didn't cross my mind!  :-)

We used a keyfit 30 and bought an extra base for DH's car.  This worked extremely well for us.  I'm not sure I understand your question.  :)

For the convertible I have a Britax Pavilion and DH has the Ricaro ProRide.  We couldn't decide between the two so we got one of each :).  We def. needed two since DH does drop off to day care and I pick up.  The convertible car seats are way too heavy and bulky to transfer between cars that frequently.

There are two convertibles with bases, I believe. I think they are pretty spendy though. The Graco Smart Seat and the Orbit Toddler Seat.

It is cheaper to just get two good convertibles. Also, I wouldn't suggest getting convertibles until you need them. They have expiration dates, and the longer they sit, the more time you are losing on them.

The Chicco base is only for the infant seat.  The extra base is a convenient feature if you regularly use several cars to travel with the baby but it would become obsolete when you switch out of the infant seat, which usually happens before they hit the max weight limit of 30 lbs because of height.  We moved DD out of her Chicco infant seat at 10 months.

As far as I know, Graco is the only manufacturer that recently introduced an extended use infant seat that you can use until 40 lbs RF, which should get most babies RF to 2 years old as recommended by safety experts.  It comes with a separate base.

As for the convertible seat, you'd be starting from scratch since you will need to consider budget (possibly 2 separate car seats), fit in your car, ease of use and whether extended RF is important to you.  Some of the most popular and recommended models are Graco My Ride, Britax Marathon and Boulevard/Pavilion, Diono Radian XTL and First Years True Fit and they all have different pros and cons.

I just wanted to say that we hav this seat and we used it with DS. The Keyfit doesn't need the base (most infant seats require them so far as I know). You can just strap it in by putting the seat belt across it through the brackets (this is. In the instructions). We ended up returning or extra base b/c we rarely put DS in DH's vehicle anyway, so we didn't need to spend the extra $90.

You can install any infant seat without a base. There is one seat that requires a base over a certain weight. I want to say it is a Combi seat, but I could be wrong.
