Breech Baby Here

So today I find out that my baby is most likely breech. I wanted an all natural, med free, vaginal water birth so getting a c section wasn't what I had in mind. However, now that it's a possibility, I kind of don't care !

I mean I figure it this way, I will try to get him to flip with different postures and positions etc, but I'm not going to be nuts about it. If he flips he flips, if he doesn't he doesn't and we'll just schedule a C-section. I don't really want to have to do that but I figure if I have to get one I can just skip the whole labor part and get a baby in 20min right? lol

So two questions for ya'll :

 1) I'm wondering whether you've had a breech before and if they flipped.

2) If anyone out there can give input on how they felt about having a scheduled C section. Did you feel like cheated out of the labor experience if you did schedule a C section or grateful you didn't have to do it?

I don't want to be negative because you may end up with a C/S anyway, but it really rubs me the wrong way when people are so flippant about C/S.  It's not just "oh, I'll skip labor and have the baby in 20 mins and everything is totally the same, but easier!".  If that were true then we would all just have C/S.  There are increased risks to mother and baby.  There can be far reaching effects, which impact future fertility or future pregnancies and it certainly limits your options (at best) for future labor and deliveries.  Just look into it some since you think it might be something you have to deal with so that you know what you're looking at.

But you're right, there are things you can do (exercises, etc.), chiropractic care, as a last resort they can attempt a ECV, plus the vast majority of babies settle head down by the time labor starts even if they like to wait til the last minute.

GL!

I'm just lurking over here, but have you talked to your dr about a version? They're not always successful, but it's better than a C-section.

To answer number 1: DS was breech until the day I went in for my version at 36 weeks, so there's still time for the baby to flip.

My friend went in for an induction last Saturday, and baby was transverse. She ended up going home to give it a few days to see if her baby would flip. She went in Tues and baby was head down. And her baby was over 9# and still managed to flip.

1)  DD1 was breech and my water broke at 33w5d before she had time to turn, so I had a section.  I do think that there is still plenty of time for him to flip, though!

2)  Mine wasn't scheduled and I labored a little bit, but I felt both.  This time I decided to try for a vbac but will get a rcs if I go past my edd.  I think there will be a tiny part of me that will be sad if the vbac doesn't work out, but I'm not pinning my hopes and dreams on it.

And I admire your attitude about everything.  I disagree with the PP since you already said you will do whatever you can to get him to flip, but you're not going to beat yourself up if he doesn't.  I've had some friends get really 'stuck' on their ideal labor and delivery and then have a hard time dealing with things when they didn't go that specific way.

I fought tooth and nail to not have a c/s when #2 was breech. I started accupuncture (moxi sticks) and seeing a Chiro at 34 weeks. She turned right before my 36 week appointment.

I'm a lurker over here, but have been doing growth u/s every few weeks since my a/s and LO has been breeched all along.  My OB has mentioned it, but said we don't need to have a lengthy discussion until 36 weeks, because most babies will flip on their own by then - so hopefully it's a non-issue.  I had an appt today and we briefly discussed acupuncture, chiropractic, and versioning as ways to help encourage the baby to flip.  I've also started looking at the spinning babies website.

In the end, if I need a c-section, then that's what I'll do, but I'm going to try everything I can over the next few week to help encourage the baby to flip.

I haven't had any breech deliveries. I do hope very much that you manage to find a way to get LO to flip so that you can have your preferred birth experience.

I do want to give a quick aside note, however - I was a breech baby, I was delivered via cesarean against my mother's will, and I am extremely grateful to the doctors who made that call. I was very late, I was becoming unhealthy, and an attempted breech extraction (for my specific circumstances) would have given me a statistically high chance of suffering moderate to severe injury. My mother was so burned by her experience that she refused to listen to doctors for what ended up being nearly all of my childhood - she also refused to bond with me, blaming the birth experience and the fact that I was separated from her for three days as she recovered, for her own failure to seek a connection with me. I mourn the way my mother chose to react to the medical procedure that brought me safely into this world - but I will never regret that I was unharmed.

Come what may, make your birth experience as pleasant as you can - just don't let a less than preferable experience take away from your pride for bringing a child into the world :)

I'm 38 weeks and my baby is breech. I wanted a med free natural delivery but we are doing a scheduled csection next Thursday. We were hoping she would flip but she hasn't yet and doesn't look like she will now. I was sad when they first talked about a csection but we had to do IVF to get this pregnancy so I really will do anything to just have her come out safe and healthy. My OB said csection is the safest for the baby, the risks are mostly for the mother but they are low.

My baby was breech for quite some time as well. I had a very successful version at 36 1/2 wks. I was very surprised at how relaxed the atmosphere was in the room and how calm and caring the doctors were. My experience was not painful at all. They had baby flipped in two minutes, and hes been heads down now for four more weeks. I am so thankful I chose to do it becuase I know I would have felt cheated out on the birthing experience.

I had a scheduled c-section due to a breech baby. However, my water broke the day before and I was dialated to 10 before I got to the OR (6 cm when I checked in at the hospital). So in a way I experienced labor. I certainly don't feel cheated out of a birth experience. It was our experience and it was beautiful. In that moment the only thing I cared about was seeing his face for the first time.

I researched versions and finally asked my doctor which one was more dangerous for baby a version or a c-section and she said a version because he could go into distress but a c-section is much more dangerous for you. For me it was a no brainer. I couldn't stand the chance of him going into distress just so I could have the birth I had dreamed of.

I've read of a few occasions where people have tried using those belly bud speakers and attached them really low on the bump and the baby has turned.  Not saying it will work for you but if you are looking for things to try this seems like a possibility.

DD was breech throughout my whole third trimester.  They said it was because I had lower fluid and she just couldn't get into position.  I too was really bummed and tried everything including yoga, spinning babies, hot/cold, music, chiropractor, etc....nothing worked and I went into labor 10 days early and had a section once they determined that I was actually in early labor.  I only got to 1 cm, but was having contractions for 4 hours and was being monitored at the hospital.  I had come to terms with it beforehand, but it was still disappointing.  I had met with a holistic birth counselor at our hospital, attending birthing classes, read tons of books, but in the end he/she will come how they are supposed to.  This time around I am trying for a VBAC, but trying to keep an open mind to a repeat cs.  Good luck to you.

DD#! was breech until 37 weeks- i am a small person and my dr wouldn't even attempt a version. but- she flipped at 37 weeks.

DD#2 was transverse until 37 weeks, then magically one day i stopped feeling so uncomfortable and she was head down, too.

so- my point is that you do still have time to have that sweet baby flip.

i have big plans for you, little pumpkin.

Thanks ladies !

I'm hoping he does flip but I'm just looking at the silver lining of both possible birth experiences, ya know? I think he should have time to flip I just wonder why it seems that my doctor is making a big deal of it at this point then. I'm going to do Moxibustion tonight to see how that goes. Any way it pans out I am just SO excited to meet him! 1 month!(ish) lol
