XP: Car Seats - HELP

Ok, I need help. I cannot decide on a car seat to save my life. I am on a tight budget, and decided that buying used from CL or a baby resale shop is just not worth the risk IMO. So... the most I'm willing to spend is $90 (which is totally do-able via Amazon or Walmart). I just can't figure out which one to go with. And I need to get one ASAP!

How did you ladies decide? I keep psyching myself out with these customer reviews. I want something that...

-Will last for 4-5 months

-Is cushioned/comfy

-Has breathable fabric (it gets REALLY hot where I live)

-Has decent head support for a NB

... and something that isn't going to make me want to scream when I'm taking it in and out of the car. I am a total, clueless noob, and I don't have any practical help/advice IRL... so... this is a post of desperation. lol

I've been looking at the Graco Snugride, Evenflo Discovery 5, Safety 1st Comfy Carry,  and the Safety 1st D-22.

Any/all tips will be much appreciated. I posted this to my BMB, as well.

The Graco Snugride is easy to use and easy to install.  Additional bases are fairly inexpensive (and you can buy them used).  The fabric isn't the highest quality, though.  And you'll def be able to use this seat longer than 4 months - DS just outgrew his at 10 months.

If your budget is that tight, you may just want to skip the infant seat and use a convertible.  You can find them for under $90 and they will last years instead of months.

This.

If you are stuck on an infant seat, then I would look into the Cosco Comfy Carry Elite or the Safety 1st On Board 35 . I highly advise not to get a rear-adjust seat. All the cheaper snugrides are rear adjust and the Comfy Carry is unless you Elite. I believe the Evenflo Discovery states that the handle must be back, which makes it incompatible with some cars, because it takes up so much room.

For head support you can use rolled up receiving blankets on the sides, and that will work perfectly fine. I personally found most of the Graco head supports useless. The Snugride 30 the Little Apple posted is a good deal. It is not a rear-adjust so that is good. It may have an older date, which could be why it is so cheap. Albeebaby has good customer service though, so you can always call and ask if you are worried about how old it is.

For convertibles, you could look into the Cosco Scenera, Cosco Apt or Safety First Guide 65. All fall under $100.

This one has great infant support, has a slightly higher height/weight limit and is easy to install.

Why would this be ok, if buying a used seat isn't? Falls under the same rules. No way.

Seats can be installed baseless, so unless you absolutely need a 2nd base, then I wouldn't worry about it. You can always get a convertible for the 2nd vehicle as well, and bypass getting another base.

I agree with this. Buy a convertible that both sits backward and forward. Sometimes you can find the graco myride for around 100 on sale or the first years true fit. Target sometimes has the britax marathon for around 100 on sale too. I think evenflo triumph also fits a newborn well and is less expensive.

We had this one and I liked it. DD was able to use it until she outgrew it by height at 13 months. I installed it in at least 10 different cars (family members and rental cars on vacation) and it was easy to install for the most part. It would never install properly in my DH's car though.
