baby room :)

YAY I finally got a running start on the baby room! I'm so proud of myself. We still don't have a mattress or any bedding, but I think it'll look great when it's finished. We DO NOT have a rocking chair/glider. I'm a FTM, so I'm wondering...all you STM how important (beneficial) is it to have a chair in the nursery??

Depends on where you think you'll be feeding/rocking the baby. With DD it was necessary to have it in the nursery. It was just easier to change her, breastfeed in the room and then rock her to sleep. This time the baby will be sharing a room with DD, so I'll do most of the feeding and rocking in the livingroom instead.

Yeah I think it depends on what you plan on doing when the baby wakes int the night. With my kids I was very strict on nopt taking them out of there rooms when they woke in the night as a way of showing them it was still bed time. So for me a comfey chair is a must.

I'm a FTM but since I have a dog who does not know the meaning of the word "calm" I imagine I will be feeding/nursing primarily in the baby's room. It will just be easier than trying to get the dog to stop chewing the bottles and trying not to flash the neighbors while simultaneously trying to nurse my son :)

We used the glider in DD's room every day until we recently redid her room and removed it at 3.5. A must have, IMO.

Believe it or not my daughter didn't like to be rocked.  She loved her swing during the day but when she woke at night or when it was time to go to bed it made her cry louder....you might not want to get one until you know it will be used alot.  This time around we do still have a rocking chair and I'll put it in the nursery to start and go from there.

This for us, too. I rocked DS a LOT while I was breastfeeding or just sitting around with him. It was soothing for both of us.

He's 2 1/2, and I still use the glider to rock him. Some nights, he just wants to be rocked. He wants to be rocked when he's sick. Sometimes he just wants me to sit in the chair and rock while he settles down in his bed. He loves it so much, in fact, that we have to buy a new one for the nursery because he flipped out at the mention of putting the glider in the baby's room, and him being a "big boy" without one.

ETA: I should also note that the glider was not always in the nursery. For the most part, when he was a newborn, I was out in the living room and therefore ordered a glider with neutral upholstery. The glider didn't actually go in his room until he was 7 months.

DS is 2 and we use ours every day still. In the beginning I used it for nursing and rocking to sleep. I didn't want to take him somewhere else in the house, I wanted him to understand that he needs to sleep in his room at night and that its bed time. Definitely a must have for us!

I didn't have a rocker/glider right away and regretted it. We got one within a couple of weeks and it was a Godsend!

My DS is 18 months and we still use his glider constantly.  We use it to read to him and sometimes when he's playing in his room it gives me a place to sit.  When he was small and woke up during the night I would nurse/rock him and then put him right back into the crib.  It was a real life-saver!

I had the same question when I was a FTM and I'm SO glad I went with a glider for her room! We didn't overly use it when she was super small but now that she's bigger we rock all of the time and she loves it.
