Anyone watch "Mobbed" last night? They made fun of IF

I happened to come across a show last night called "Mobbed". I guess it's a Howie Mandell creation where different people apply to have a flash mob arranged on their behalf to tell someone in their life a secret, to propose, that sort of thing in a BIG way. Based on the announcement, Howie and his Hollywood team puts on a huge Hollywood-style flash mob to surprise the unsuspecting person and makes a big spectacle about it. Sounded harmless enough so I kept watching.

This particular episode happened to be about a woman who applied to be on the show because she had tried to get pregnant with her husband for five years with no success. Of course, my interest was piqued. She found out she was pregnant with what I assume was a surprise BFP and wanted Howie and his people to put together a giant flash mob production to tell her husband about the pregnancy. I might add that she was already three months along already, which blew my mind that someone could keep a secret like that from their husband. My husband would kill me if I kept something this important from him for that long and decided to tell him on national TV, but to each their own. She had already seen the heartbeat without him.

As part of the planning process, Howie visited her "Gynecologist" to make sure his production would be “safe” for the pregnant lady to participate in. But the shot of the building showed he was actually actually at a California Fertility Center. He started off by saying he wouldn’t touch doorknobs because he knew where the doctor's hands have been (har har snort snort.) He continued with his stupid comments and got a tour of the place, including the andrology lab.

Here’s where it really began pissing me off. He began by saying how gross it was that he was in a room that processed sperm. An lab worker walked past him with a vial, he asked what it was, and she said "sperm!" and he freaked out. Things got even better when he got a tour of the collection room, and it became like a circus spectacle. They made sure to get good shots of the dirty movies and the TV on the wall and have a chuckle about it. Back in the lab, they showed a cryo tank with a “bunch of frozen babies” in it and Howie just shook his head. It made my heart hurt a little that he could make such light about something so sensitive. DH commented "No one would dream of going into burn ward and make fun of all of the not-so-pretty aspects associated." He's totally right. Why the *(&#is it okay to make fun of the details of infertility? I found it very sad.

Just curious if anyone else saw that last night and what their thoughts were? I really wish that IF was shown in a more caring light on TV, but alas - it's the world we live in.

DH - all clear. Me - Unicornuate Uterus discovered at HSG 8/16/12. Referred for IVF 8/28/12. Approved for IVF Warranty Program 10/2/12. Laparoscopy 11/1/12 - removed right rudamentary horn, both tubes, left ovarian cyst and endometriosis. Given all clear for pregnancy after 1/1/2013.
IVF cycle 1 starts 1/19/13!
12 eggs, 7 mature and all 7 fertilized - 2 Frosties!!
5 day SET 2/4/13 - Beta 2/13: 86 & 2/15: 186 BFP!!!!

This. Howie Mandel is an immature tool who needs professional help for his issues. I hope he gets it and see no need to support any of his endeavor.

Agreed. Ugh, how annoying, I'm glad I didn't catch it, I would have been pissed!

As a patient who recently went through IVF (successfullyCool) I am very disheartened by what I just read. Some people need to do their homework before they take the test. Being insensitive is completely uncalled for. If you generally are that ignorant, then ask questions instead of poking fun at it. Yes, the collection rooms have dirty movies and magazines...Im sure his night stand does too, but no cameras will ever come accross those. So he has never masterbated or had sex...so that would explain his fear of sperm. I was very blessed that my infertility was not as serious as others. I would watch women and couples leave in tears because of bad news. My heart broke for them, and yet here is this morron who has no clue how lucky he is to see how these miracles are made making dumb remarks. Howie Mandell - while I know you have OCD about cleanliness you seriously are a piece of $&@*.

I didn't see it. While I do try to see the humor in things, at this point in my life, IF is just NOT funny. Pretty disappointing to hear about this. But if a woman is three months pregnant without telling her husband, it seems there's more to that story, and should have been a red flag to not use the premise for an episode anyway. I don't think I'll be watching future episodes.

Me:33 TTC since 2008 Feb08: ruptured Ectopic(surgically removed right tube and ovary) Oct12: Began seeing a Fertility Doctor Dx:Anovulation, Provera to force period, clomid 50mg, Day 12 ultrasound showed no follicles/no ovulation. Dec12: Day 3 Antral Follicle Count; ONE, FSH also jumped from 8.4 to 24, increased clomid dosage to 150mg

If she went for fertility treatments her husband would have to know that she is pregnant.  What is he going to take her for the porcedure and then never follow up.  "Hey honey how did that IVF thing ever work out?"  Please this woman just wanted to get on tv.

Ultrasound shows a miracle heartbeat right in the uterus where it belongs! Dr. says I can be cautiously optomistic!!! Hang in there baby!

I can't even see how a surprise BFP was kept quiet for 3 months.  In the first place, I personally would be a neurotic mess trying not to worry during the first trimester. Also, I don't see how she could suddenly not want to do another treatment and her husband wouldn't ask.
Us: 37(me)/39(he). TTC since April '11. DOR/MFI. March '12: surgery to remove fibroids, cysts, and endometriosis.
IVF #1: 9/13/12. ER: 9/25. 3R, 2M, 1F. ET: 9/28 (1-6B). Beta: moved from 10/11 to 10/10: BFN.
IVF #2: 11/12 cycle postponed due to Sandy and then cancelled due to elevated E2.
IVF #2.1 cancelled due to cyst.
IVF #2.2: 2/2/13

I watched it onDemand after I saw a few posts on the bump about it. I think it was horrrible that IF was taken so lightly and joked about. It would have been nice for them to show how emotional and serious IF really is for all of us. I still don't understand how this women waited 3 months! I couldn't wait 2 minutes to tell my husband about our BFP!!
TTC naturally since Nov 2010. Diagnosed with PCOS in June of 2012 Started seeing a RE June 2012 HSG showed a block left tube Hubby's SA showed a slightly low count everything else ok Three rounds of Clomid/IUI-all three rounds IUI were cancelled because follicles never matured. Starting injections for IVF Dec. 1st. Praying for the Christmas gift of a lifetime!!! 11/30 Baseline U/S and bloodwork-everything looks great! 12/1 Start Stims 12/11 ER 16R 7M 7F 12/16 ET 12/26 Beta #1 364 12/28 Beta #2 758 12/31 Beta #3 2249 12/31 Ultrasound showed...TWINS!!!!!! 2/4 Ultrasound showed one baby with HR of 174 and one angel baby. We are heartbroken. It's a girl! Due Sept. 4th BabyFruit Ticker

Eh, on the not telling - if she had been trying for five years and didn't get regular periods, there's a solid chance she may not have even known until close to three months.

She specifically said she waited because she wanted to know it was a healthy pregnancy before telling her husband. She even went to her ultrasound and saw the baby's heartbeat without him. Definitely not how I'd do it, but I guess people have different ways of doing things.

I thought he was a complete d**k. The hand washing, refusing to touch the door knob, freaking pit over sperm. I didn't even finish it. I can't imagine waiting 12 seconds to tell my husband, much less 12 weeks.
