Soy formula for infant boys

I am waiting to get into a specialist on Feb 14th to try to see if we can diagnose my LO properly with a MPI/MSPI or allergy. We have had suspcions based on many symptoms and the pedi wanted us to try soy or Alimentum. He absolutely will not take the Alimentum. I have posted about this already and have tried all tips. He even went on a hunger strike and was refusing to eat even his old formula, so that was scary. I don't want to keep forcing this on him and end up in the ER. The pedi said we could try soy to see if that helps. She said lots of babies with a milk protein intolerance/allergy also have a reaction to soy but some do not. I have read things about not giving boys soy formula. Does anyone have experience with soy formula? I would love to hear experiences. I just would like my little guy to feel better soon! Thanks!

The AAP says there isn't enough evidence to discourage it. Your baby needs to eat and be healthy. If soy is the way to that, then do it.

Interesting ... is it just soy formula or soy in general?

DS has an allergy and he drank alimentum just fine after a week. Once he turned 12 months we switched him to soy milk and he's done fine on it.

DD also has the allergy and drinks alimentum and doesn't really care for it. Its a struggle just to get 3 ounces in her most day but then she gets hungry and chugs it. When she's 4 months we are going to attempt a switch to soy formula ... her allergy is not as severe as his was so hopefully we can make a smooth transition.

I have just read bizarre things online about too much estrogen in the soy and that it's not good for boys, etc. *soy and soy formula* and I know I shouldn't believe everything I read, but it was in a lot of sources, so I was just curious!

It is soy in general. There is no conclusive evidence that phytoestrogens have a negative effect on anyone, even little boys/men. DS is on soy milk due to a milk intolerance, and his pediatrician didn't seem the slightest bit reluctant to advise it. I did my own research, and for us, the benefits outweigh the risks.

I just had to switch my son to soy due to a suspected MPI. He's not crazy about it either and at first would only take about half of his bottles but he's doing better now. I'd never heard anything about not giving soy to boys but my pediatrician never mentioned it either so I'm presuming it's not a concern.

Lurking, but this! My DS had to have soy formula, and he is fine.

I'm curious to know what kind of signs and symptoms lead you to possibly think of a suspected milk allergy? I have been wondering about this as my little girl is having problems with every formula try. We tried why is she became so constipated I had to take her to the ER because she tore and it begin to come out from pushing so hard. Unfortunately I don't know anything about boys formula no I'm not much help.

I could be wrong but constipation is not really a symptom of a milk protein allergy. You can google it but fussiness during/after feedings, gas pains like screaming in pain, mucousy stools that are green and foul, irritability, eczema, and we saw small traces of blood in his stool a couple of times and he is no where bear constipated so it wasn't from a tear or anything like that.
Thanks everyone for your input!

Before I had a baby I used to read things about how soy can impact testosterone levels in men b/c of phytoestrogens. I honestly don’t know what the impact would be on babies. I do believe all formulas have a little bit of soy (read the ingredients). When I was pregnant, I eliminated flax seed (a staple in my pre-pregnancy diet) b/c I’d read that it has estrogenic effects and I wasn’t sure if I was pregnant with a girl or boy....

My son is 4 months old and has eczema (just like his mummy). When I was a baby my mother had me on soy formula and my doctor said we should try my son on it to. I'm torn because I turned out great but with technology now you read so many stories of soy not being good for babies.

I want to make the right decision and give him some relief from scratching but I'm so torn.

Any suggestions?
