Tell me about your dream feeds please

With my first, I just picked her up, put her to the boob and she nursed like a champ.  Then I changed her diaper and she slept straight through it.  With my newborn (1 month today), I attempt to dream feed him and he wakes up.  Then I change his diaper.  He proceeds to stay up for 2 hours or more.  It just seems like he wants to give in to sleep but keeps fighting it.  There have been multiple days of staying up until 1 or 2 to try to get him back to sleep.

He also just went through his 3-4 week growth spurt and has what I think may be reflux and definately lots of gas, so there is that too, but even when he's settled and not troubled by gas, he just can't give in.

If you've had a similar experience, I'd love to hear your story or how you overcame it.

Is he fussing/crying when you put him down or just not asleep? I would say mine wake up 50% of the time during their night feeds but I still just put them in their cribs, turn out the lights and say good night. Obviously if they start crying or fussing I tend to them but otherwise I leave them to fall asleep on their own.

Both of mine have reflux so if you think that's an issue, definitely discuss it with your pediatrician. Mine get gassy every now and then too and I find that gas drops work really well. GL!

I have learned to change LO's diaper before feeding (pump and bottle feed).  I change her diaper, put the swaddler back on her, and feed her.  That way, when she's done I can (most of the time) put her right back down and go back to sleep.  If I change her diaper after she wakes up and it takes a while for her to go back to sleep.  I have used the diaper change to wake her up in the middle of the feeding when she is so sleepy she doesn't eat.

I put DS to bed around 8pm then do a dreamfeed before dh and I go to bed, usually around 11pm.  He's always OUT like a light, so I just pick him up, change his diaper real quick, reswaddle him, then feed.  I bottle feed.  He doesn't even open his eyes.  If he's too sleepy to eat I'll stroke his cheek or gently blow on his face to wake him up.

He's almost 11 wo and a pretty good sleeper, we didn't start the dream feed until 9weeks.  We've had a consistent routine since day one and I literally just give him his bedtime bottle and put him down.  He knows that nighttime is for sleeping now.  I know if we had tried it when he was only 4 wo it wouldn't have worked as well, he would always be up for hours after feedings when he was that age.  Maybe your lo just needs more time?

Me too. However, my LO doesn't do the dream feed thing. I've attempted, but it hasn't worked. When he wakes I feed him and he typically falls asleep at my breast and I can put him back down.
