Birthday Blues

Ok so I'm planning the little guy's first bday part for February...HELP!  We have a small house (like 15 people guest list accomodated inside) but it will be cold outside.  We thought about renting a tent and having heat lamps in the backyard but I'm afraid no one will really want to hang out outside (although they won't fit inside).  DH's fam is about 20, my fam is huge...about 50, and then friends would be 10ish plus us.  This is insane.  But I don't want to leave anyone out.  Anyone have creative solutions or in the same dilemma?

We are having like 50 people in a small row house so we are doing an open house type thing so (hopefully) people will filter in and out all day.  We will probably do 1-7pm

Do you have a heated garage or something that you can empty out just for the party?  We had DS's in my grandpa's workshop.  It's a huge room with a lot of space and all of his saws and everything line the edge, so we just cleaned it up, set up tables/chairs and had the party there.

This is our dilemma too... I'm thinking about renting a lodge in a local park assuming it is affordable.  That way clean up is easier and I don't have to worry about being too cramped in our house.

If you have a community building, or go to a church with a big room. These options would be the cheapest I can think of. This way you will be able to enjoy it and not constantly be worrying about where everyone will be and if they're comfortable. Heat lamps and a tent might scare me. Especially if there will be any other kids there. Sorry, maybe I'm just basing it on the kids in my family. Hope you have a great time where ever you choose to have it!

I agree with the last poster, find a community building or church that will let you use the facilities (a church would probably be less costly).

Figuring out arrangements can be stressful, but try to have fun with it!  I would look into a church hall or sometimes the town hall has a room that can be rented out for parties. One of my friend's is having her baby's birthday at a different family members house so there would be more room.  Do you have anyone who wouldn't mind co-hosting?  Lastly, could you have two smaller parties? Good luck!

I like the "open house" idea because I'm hoping to have it somewhere with a crib to put the babe down if he needs a nap in between and it would be convenient to be at home with all his stuff.  I'm not sure how to communicate it or time the main events like cake and gifts.  My parents don't love the idea - I'm not sure why??  They offered to have it at thier house which is bigger but still would be cramped with over 30 people.

Our garage isn't finished or heated.  We have a additional room in the backyard that's set up as a bar and we can heat it for another 7ish people.  I hadn't thought of the danger of heat lamps with little ones.  There will be about 5 other LOs.  I guess I want to know what would you think as a guest?  Would you be put out to have to filter through for an "open house" or if most of the party was outside?

Thank you for all your suggestions and encouragement!
