Ditching the monitor!

When is did you do this or plan on packing up the baby monitor????Our LO STTN but is a noisy sleeper and I am a light sleeper so he wakes me quite often. I'm just not sure I'm comfortable not using the monitor anymore. It gives me such piece of mind.

I... am just not sure on this one. My DH hardly even uses it anymore, but I use it on full blast all the time!! I don't know when I'll be comfortable not using it anymore... maybe when she's 5? LOL!

For my piece of mind being the worry wart that I am...we are keeping the monitor until 1yr given if LOs sleep habits remain consistent STTN. DH thinks we can ditch it now, but after explaining it's more for my comfort at this point, he's agreed to waiting until 1 yr.

With teething off and on, colds etc...I just feel better keeping it a bit longer.

At 10 months I use it constantly but my MOH (who watches our LO daily) never uses it.  Last night we forgot to turn it on and didn't notice until the morning.  I don't think we really need it but I like to have it on in the mornings to see if he is really awake before going in to get him (i.e. standing up looking for me) or just rolling around getting comfy to fall back asleep.

I don't think we will be ditching it for a couple years. We are on a different floor on the other side of the house. Even in full on screaming mode we can't hear her in our room.

My friends use theirs to see if their toddler is actually in bed like she is suppose to be or to spy if she gets too quiet while playing. Their daughter knows about the monitor and talks to her parents through it.

Not until he's in a bed and can get up and come get us if he needs something.  Or he leaves for college.  Kidding.  Sort of.

FWIW DS has STTN every night since he was 9 weeks old except for maybe 5 or 6 nights.  But those 5 or 6 nights he had gotten a fever or thrown up or had some sort of other legitimate problem that needed to be dealt with.  We would not have known that with him sleeping at the opposite end of the house without the monitor.

We have it on, but muted and video off while we sleep. DD is in the room next to ours so we can hear her if there are any issues. I can still click the video on to check which I like. I am a light sleeper, too and I am sleeping so much better now!

I haven't used it since he was a couple weeks old. He's in the next room so I can hear him just fine. We never had a video one to begin with. Sounds like we may should check into once he's in a toddler bed though!

We only keep a monitor downstairs so that I can hear her during naps during the day. Our bedrooms are upstairs and next to each other. I'm a very light sleeper, and she is a loud crier and noisy sleeper. If there was a problem, her cry would wake me. But her noisy sleeping was keeping me up all night long and I just wasn't getting anygood sleep with a monitor in our room.

Do what makes you comfortable! If its working and not a problem I see no reason to ditch it m

I don't turn it on at night, but we leave our door open and I can hear him if he gets up and is crying. Sometimes he gets up to  play and I don't hear that as easily.

We still have a sound monitor in my almost 5 year olds room....we are very heavy sleepers and all sleep with our bedroom doors shut.  Our rooms are all upstairs but the way our house is setup, the boys are on the other side of the house with a closet and bathroom seperating our walls.  I'm sure we could take it out of DS1s room but on nights he's not feeling well or sick, it really comes in handy.  There have been some nights where he's gotten sick and I wouldn't have known if I hadn't had the monitor on and heard him.  We'll probably take it out of his room soon.....maybe I'll grab it out of there today.

I will say that when he was about 3 and we switched him to a twin bed from a crib, the video monitor came in handy.  We were able to see if he was staying in bed and could remind him to hop back in bed with the 2-way talk feature.  I don't see us getting rid of DS2's monitor until he is sleeping in a big bed consistently.

I still have a video monitor in my 3 year old's room. And no plans to take it out. It helps a lot to see whether she's in bed or if she's asleep yet. Actually I used the video a lot more once she was a toddler. So DS will have a monitor on him for years to come.

I use the baby monitor during the day when DD naps, because I'm usually downstairs or in the basement, so I wouldn't be able to hear her. At night, I don't use the monitor anymore. She's down the hall and if she needs my attention I'll hear her as she usually cries loud enough.

This, haha! We'll probably keep it around, but use it a little less diligently, until she's more independent.

We still use a monitor for my DD who is almost 4. We probably could ditch it because I can't even remember the last time she woke up in the night, but it's on just in case.

We use it, but often if she's too noisy for me to sleep with her wiggling, I just turn the sound off. If she's crying I can hear her without the monitor, but I like being able to see her on the monitor when I wake up in the middle of the night.

This is us, too.  When she wakes up (and she's a poor sleeper despite all our efforts) I like being able to click it on to see what's up.

During the day for naps I use it tons to see whether her stirring is her being up or just stirring - she sleep talks already a little.

We still use ours for our DS1, and we also all sleep with doors shut.  It's helpful to know when he falls asleep, wakes, up, and if he needs us in the middle of the night.  No plans to take it out anytime soon.

DD#1 is 2 1/2 and DD#2 is 11 months old.  We still use the video monitor to see if our 2 year old is getting out of her toddler bed.  The baby is still sleeping in our room because they wake each other up so we can also hear if she's crying through the video monitor.

We're probably going to use it for a few years to see what the girls are doing upstairs at bedtime while we're in the basement watching tv.

We haven't used one in months. We live in a small one floor condo and I can hear them from any room. Our bedrooms share a wall and I wake up whenever they fuss even a little bit anyway. If this wasn't the case I would still be using it. I wouldn't feel comfortable not hearing them wake up (whether it be because I can hear from our room or via monitor) until they're old enough to get out of bed and come get us on their own.
