Cholestasis or normal pregnancy itching?

I have so much itching everywhere, mostly on the palms of my hands and the bottoms of my feet at night,  that it wakes me up and keeps me from getting back to sleep. When I googled it, cholestasis came up. I mentioned it at my last appt. and the doctor sort of blew me off and said it was normal to be itchy in pregnancy, but most women online said they had to insist to be tested. I'm going to ask again at my next appt. Has anyone here ever been diagnosed? I'm scheduled for a C-section this Friday, so I'm guessing they wouldn't do much else at this point...I'm just so worried about stillbirth!

If it makes you feel better, insist. From what I read, they may choose to induce you right away if it comes back positive. I know this because I've been very itchy as well, mostly just my feet though, so I called my dr. two nights ago. He said my itching is because of swelling (my legs have been like tree trunks lately), and if I had cholestasis, I'd be itching all over, especially feet and palms of hands. So if my itching spreads, I'll be calling to get tested asap.

I think you definitly have Cholestasis! When i went into my doctor talking about how my whole body is incredibly itchy, she said if you have cholestasis, you are very itchy on my palms and feet as well as other spots on your body. She sent me directly to the lab for blood work because this is a very dangerous condition for you and the baby. She even said if i tested positive, she would have to induce me at week 38. I would persist with your doctor, or see another doctor for a 2nd opinion. However, since you are having a C-Section this friday, i'm sure they would not do anything to help you. The only way to cure this is to give birth to the baby.

It sounds like cholestasis to me, as I did have it when I was pregnant. I am no expert, though, just someone who's experienced it. I would insist on having labs done just to be on the safe side. Anything can happen in the next week.

It could be, cut cholestasis is rare...sounds like it could be PUPPPS as well. I had it with my son and it was awful - lots of itching, especially on my palms and feet too.

My SIL had cholestasis and, yes, she had to go through bloodwork (which takes 2 weeks to come back?) and she was induced at 37 weeks
