How often to have intercourse?

About 6 weeks ago my husband had a sperm analysis done and everything was LOW. It was bad bad news. The dr's told us we virtually had no chance of conceiving naturally with his levels.

But after changing certain things, 6 weeks later, his SA is in the normal range, and she sees no reason it won't stay that way as long as we're keeping up the "good work".

My question is... during my fertile week, should we be having sex every other day, or every day? I heard with low sperm count every other day is better, but with normal sperm count every day is better for the best chance.

Any thoughts?

I would ask you or dh dr what they recommend...but most of the time everyday sex is okay UNLESS there is an issue with DH's sperm.

Every other day is fine. As long as you have sex in your fertile window, you're giving yourself a chance to get pregnant.

To start with, they were VERY low - mobility was 31, count was below 10, volume was 1.

Last week the test came back - mobility was 69, count was 21, volume was 3.

Oh... and all we changed was lifestyle stuff --- no more alcohol, caffeine, boxers instead of boxer briefs and he started taking Fertility Blend for men.

We were told the same thing. What things did you change? That's the fastest I've ever heard of as far as seeing a huge improvement.

Yes, ma'am. We were told it takes at least 3 months. He has a SERIOUSLY stressful job and had just gotten back from a deployment this summer, so my dr thinks that could have had a lot to do with it.

Is there a chance the first SA being bad was a fluke? It takes 3 months for new sperm to be ready so seeing results like that in 6 weeks I dont think is that likely. They will normally do a second SA if the first is bad to make sure, my H had two done because the first was bad but so was his second.

They don't think it was a fluke. There's a good chance we caught his first SA on the tail end of a bad 3 months due to stress and poor lifestyle choices. My dr also said there's a possibility that because of his job (high stress, lack of sleep several times a week) that his sperm count could be very inconsistent from month to month based on those factors alone. She told me a stressful day could decrease his volume and count if he's not really "feeling" it because of exhaustion or stress.

I thought the same thing Tigger.  That's a pretty big change in 6 weeks with the changes you mentioned.  What kind of DR are you talking to?  I don't think stress/no sleep is going to impact things THAT much...especially day to day.

Interesting. Are he seeing a Urologist? I have not heard from my RE or urologist that numbers can change that much daily. They probably could if he didn't abstain for as long as recommended before his SA or for too long before the SA.

But best of luck to you OP.

Oh good I am glad I am not the only one that thought that! Other wise I would have thought that the urologist would have asked H if he was having a stressful day prior to recommending surgery to help correct his problems. But whatevs I am not a Dr so can't speak on it either way!

From her other post..."So about 8 weeks ago my husband had a SA and the results were not good. Everything was well below normal. He just did another one and everything came back VERY normal...."

He had a 2nd one done around the 22nd, which was "VERY normal." So he has had 3 done? One 8 weeks prior to the 22nd, one around the 22nd, and now apparently one "6 weeks ago."

So he had a bad one at the beginning of Nov. and a normal one around Dec 22nd? IDK something still isn't adding up to me.

What kind of doc are you seeing? And I agree with the other ladies...a turn around like that in a couple months is unlikely.
