What are my 2nd Trimester "must haves"?

HI Everyone,

I am new to this board and looking for some advice. I am about 9 weeks along with my first child. I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice about like a "must have" list of things for my upcoming 2nd trimester? I have heard someone mention something about a belly band to help or something? lol. thanks so much for any input.

The only maternity clothes I'm wearing are pants. I can still fit into my shirts. I need new bras now though and I bought newnonesat 17w. I also find that my tank tops are starting to get a bit short.

A pregnancy or a body pillow might be something you like too.

I don't think there is anything else that I really use that's pregnancy related.

I bought a belly band but hated how I had to constantly readjust it. I just embraced maternity pants. Try on a few different brands and styles because some will fit you better than others.

I haven't needed maternity tops yet, but as pp stated my tank tops are starting to get too short. I probably need a new bra but haven't had time to go get sized yet. I'd put that on your to do list. I will probably need bigger underwear soon, too.

I haven't bought a body pillow yet; instead I sleep with one under my head, one hugged to my chest, and one between my knees. That's getting me through so far, although it's a lot to coordinate.

Also, Tums. Lots of Tums. : )

I never got a belly band, and this is my third pregnancy. Not a must have in my book. For me I wanted maternity shirts before pants. The main thing to make sure you are set with is an OB you trust, and that you are on the same page as your husband regarding pregnancy and parenting.

A plan. Seriously. DH announced a bunch of nursery renovations yesterday and I'm like uhh what? I'm 23 weeks pregnant home slice, what's the timeline here? So, some communication there and some deadlines would be really helpful.

As for things, you'll buy as you need them. Amazon prime is your friend. 2 day shipping and hassle free returns. Shop from your couch. I love my boppy wedge to support my totally popped out belly, and full panel pants to support and shape belly for maximum cute under ever-tighter sweaters.

I actually really like my belly band - I'm 23 weeks and still use it.  But still get some maternity pants as well - a few pairs of my pre-pregnancy pants don't really fit over my hips anymore!

I also second the body pillow - using mine has helped with a lot of back pain.

I'd also schedule a few prenatal massages if it's in your budget - a really nice indulgence that also helps with the aches and pains. :)

Body pillow is about my only need right now. Mine is a cheap-o one from Target.

You'll eventually need bigger bras, and cotton sleep bras can be helpful at night (more comfy than real ones, but provide some support).

I'm about to move into maternity jeans as soon as I dig them out of the garage. You'll need longer shirts to cover the gap if you wear lower-rise pants, or some women use the belly bands for that purpose.

Definitely start looking into what type of birth you want - if you want to take classes, some courses are pretty lengthy. Read some books about birth (from different perspectives, since a lot of them are biased). Read books about infant sleep habits, breastfeeding, and whatever else you can think of - it's better to be knowledgeable before LO arrives.

Also - work out a budget. Diapers get really expensive. Formula (if you choose to FF) is very expensive. It's good to have an idea of what those are going to cost you. And that's just the beginning. Despite their small size, babies are pretty expensive Wink

I have a few belly bands and I use them over some of my maternity pants to help keep them up. With my regular pants I do need to adjust them more often but it's better than nothing. The rubber band trick works too but then my button pokes out at this weird angle. I have a snoogle body pillow and I love it. What I need to get is a better pair of walking shoes because walking more has helped with so many of my issues including hip pain and constipation and as I weigh more I know I'll want some really good shoes.

The bellyband is a life-saver when you're bloated and your weight is shifting (or increasing), but you're not showing much of a "bump" yet. You'll probably only need maternity pants at first (I wore many of my non-maternity shirts til my 3rd tri), but I'd definitely try to get as much use out of that belly band as possible.

Go ahead and get some loose, comfy sleep pants now. And a body pillow. I waited awhile for both of these things, but they've been two of my favorite purchases so far :)  Also, start warming up to the idea of wireless bras. There are actually some decent ones out there that still give you support... and OMG, they're so much more comfortable than underwire!

These are the things I have needed so far, though the bras were the only "must purchase"...I'm pretty frugal and have been saving my resources for late pregnancy/baby needs (like a good car seat...which I recommend getting early so it can off-gas):

- small pillow between the knees

- belly band, loose yoga pants, or maternity pants

- maternity bras

FYI I did buy a belly band at target for less than $20. I was on the cusp between a small and medium...so I went with the small. I've used it 5-10 times...I find yoga pants far more comfortable. And I wore it the other day to hold up some overly stretched out long underwear - now it's really almost too tight.

Don't go out and buy anything unless you need it.

I hated using a belly band.  I just used a rubber band to keep my pants together until I was big enough to get maternity pants.

I'm almost in my third tri and I haven't needed bigger bras or maternity underwear.

I do love my snoogle - I tried a regular body pillow and it didn't cut it, but it works for a lot of women.

My feet are bigger or at least more swollen or something.  Wearing heels is totally out now and even my dress flats are painful after a day.  So there's a possibility of you needing new shoes, but again, I'm almost third tri and am getting by with my old ones.

I do agree with the Tums recommendation. :D
