Convertible Carseat for Grandma

Hi all ...

Looking for a convertible car seat for grandma that is inexpensive since baby will only be using it a few times and only short distances. She has a minivan so size isn't that big of an issue.

Any thoughts of some good ones I can look for?

The carseat installer at my safety inspection spoke highly if the inexpensive Costco carseat. No frills, but very safe.

I believe the Cosco Scenera is generally recommend for this use. You can find them for $40-60 normally.

Definitely the cosco scenera. It's no frills, but has a reasonably tall shell and high RF weight limits.

Just FYI. The Cosco scenera is great unless you have a big kid. Even as a spare seat, you want some thing that will say rearfacing for a long time. We had to replace ours at 20 months. DS already weighed 35 lbs. Also, the FF limit is only 40 lbs so she'll need something else eventually.

We bought one from Costco - it's a Safety 1st and was $90 - in comparison to our Britax, this was a steal!

This is true, but of the low-price options it still is  the best bet as far as shell height and RF weight limits. Also, I may be wrong but I think current models actually RF to 40 lbs and head even with the top of the shell instead of 1". ***this is something that someone buying it needs to check in the owner's manual, but I recall reading it on car-seat.org at some point***
