STM's, naps..where??

Ok so my baby is 9 weeks. She sleeps in her playpen in our room at night...will sleep for about 6 hrs. She has to be swaddled. During the day, she naps in her swing..swaddled. WHEN should I have her nap in her crib? Or should she? Should I just wait until I start putting her in there at night at 6 months? What are your opinions?

It's really just personal preference.  DS napped in the swing for us for a while because he had reflux and it would wake him by choking him when he laid flat in the beginning, so he was up constantly and napped poorly if he was reclined.  When we got his reflux under control, we transitioned to a crib for naps.

DD is currently only a week or two old, but she is napping wherever we are.  So, if DS and I are downstairs playing, she's in the swing in our living room.  If we're up in my room putting away laundry or otherwise, she's in the co-sleeper.  If we're in his room, I put her in the bouncy seat.  She's been learning to sleep just about anywhere, anytime.

I will say, though, that some mamas put their babes in the crib from day one, and have no problem with it.  If you're planning on using the crib eventually, you may try doing naps in there first, it may make your transition into the crib easier for nights.

DS either naps in his crib (he sleeps there at night), his bouncy seat or on me. It depends on how badly his reflux is bothering him that day. Some days I can't put the poor guy down.

DS2 naps in the swing, usually... in a few months I will put him in his crib... but he is SOOOO tough to get to nap- I take it where I can get it!!!

DS1 used to nap either in the swing, crib, pnp or boppy- he was much easier for naps... but he was waking EVERY 2-3 hours at night!!!  (DS2 goes 8pm to 2-3am and then up every hour or two after that- so MUCH better at night!)

My LO has slept in his crib since the day after we brought him home. He naps there in the morning and evening naps and in the afternoon wherever I'm at in his bouncy seat. He associates the crib with sleeping though and sleeps best in it.

DD has slight reflux issues so I'm not ready for her to lie flat. She sleeps in the rnp at night and usually naps on the bouncer downstairs. I've been thinking I should start the crib soon, so I'll probably prop it up a bit to deal with reflux. Her naps still are a bit random so hopefully in the next few weeks she'll fall into a pattern of where long ones are. If you are keeping LO in your room till six months I'd probably attempt naps, at least occasionally, by 3 or 4 months.

It depends on what works best for you and your LO.

I've worked as a teacher with infants at a daycare center and we were not allowed to let them sleep in the swings so it's something I've just avoided completely from habit.

We talked to our pedi about it and he said the earlier you make the change the easier it will most likely be on us. We ended up just going for it and putting him in his crib at four weeks. He's napped / slept in there ever since. I'm so glad we did it and will for our future LOs as well!

If anything I'd just give it a try! Best of luck!

I just started using the Crib for Night Time Sleeping and Naps. However sometimes her naps in the crib can be a little short, so I just scoop her up and put her in the swing and get a little longer out of her that way.

I would say at this age take the sleep where you can get it, but be cautious that the longer you wait for a crib transition the harder it will probably be.
