Horrible Acne! HEEEEELP!!!

Ok, so I know all the things you aren't supposed to use. And I'm not using any of them, but I haven't had acne this bad - EVER. It's on my face, neck chest and back. Eeew. I have the red painful bumps, the ones that just stay right under the surface of the skin forever and the disgusting whitehead ones. The full range of ick.

Of course, I have preggo-brain too so it took me about a month to google natural acne remedies. As I type this I'm wearing a mask of honey, cinnamon, egg white and olive oil. We'll see. I'll definitely let you know.

I'm really hoping that some of you have had the same problem and have been able to fix or at least make it a little better. I'm not wearing any makeup, I'm taking my vitamins and drinking plenty of water. I change my pillow case twice a week and I wash my face twice a day and apply a light moisturizer. What else can I do???

Glycolic is safe to use during pregnancy. It works well for me. You could also try going to a spa and getting a facial/ see what they recommend. I'm not sure where you live but I'm obsessed with Burke Williams. They also carry Eminence, which are great organic and pregnancy-safe products.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. I have acne normally (not so badly during pregnancy, surprisingly!) and it sucks. Hth!

Thanks! I'm in SC and there's this place called The Mom Spa that I've really wanted to check out. They have and organic full body acne treatment. Of course it's a little too expensive for me - I'm hoping to get it as a birthday present :)

I'll check out Burke Williams and Eminence though!

I use Desert Essence with tea tree oil on my face, chest, and back.  Then, I follow up with a good dollop of Desert Essence moisturizer on all of those parts.

Lurking from 1st Tri.....I do glycolic peels with my dermatologist. It's worth looking into. I think they really help. They are fruit based and safe for pregnancy.

I can't really afford a trip to the dermatologist :( but the desert Essence products look like they could work! Thanks ladies for all of the ideas!

On the all natural front, I left the mask on for an hour and rinsed off with warm water. My face feels really good. Not oily and not dry or tight. Tomorrow morning in the shower i'm going to do a brown sugar scrub and tomorrow night I'm going to try the egg yolk mask. I figured I might as well use the things in my kitchen before I go spending money!

Sulfur is safe during pregnancy and works for me. Peter Thomas Roth makes a great mask but it is $$. You can also get an inexpensive gel made by Nelson's/Bach.

I've also had horrible acne during this whole pregnancy.. The only thing that has worked for me has been sulfur; the only problem with it is that it smells really bad :(  Hope it gets better for you!!

Trader Joe's has tea tree oil wipes that work great.  Also, dabbing white toothpaste on the big ones will help.

Sounds like you are pretty on top of things. Unfortunately for those of us who really struggle with acne the only thing that helps is an oral rx, which you cant take while pg. Im still dealing with acne the best I can.

I have had this problem too, HUGE zits that literally last for weeks. I feel practically disfigured. I use a sulfur-based spot treatment... I googled it and everything I read said it is safe. I use this product:

http://www.sephora.com/eradikate-acne-treatment-P232903

It definitely seems to help shrink down the giant zits, but a word of warning... it REEKS, and the smell lingers even after you wash it off.

You guys are AWESOME! Thanks so much for all of the feedback. I'll definitely check out the sulfur. Everything that I've been reading is that Proactiv works, but it's bad for you,so I don't know about trying that.

To give you all an update on the honey mask - after night one my face is still covered in pimple (of course) but they are noticeably smaller! I was shocked. I did get really oily late in the day today, more, I think, than usual.

Tonight I'm trying the egg yolk mask. You wash your face with whatever you like and then put egg yolk straight on. It's high in tons of vitamins and has oils to moisturize. That's supposed to stay on for 20 minutes after it's dry. Rinse with lukewarm water and then warmer water (I guess so you don't cook the yolk on your face?). I'll let you guys know tomorrow.

Just realized I never gave you all the recipe for the honey mask so here it is:

one egg white

1 tsp cinnamon

1tbsp olive oil

3 tbsp honey

Whip it all up (I used a fork) until you get tiny bubbles all the way through. This made enough for me to use probably three or four times :)

Most Proactiv products have benzoyl peroxide which is controversial. I think the mask the other poster referenced is just sulfur based so it should be fine. Just check the ingredients and avoid bp, salycylic acid and retinol/retinoids.
