When is it truly a "baby" bump?

Dumb question. But I'm somewhere between 13 and nearly 15 weeks with my first ... and I've been bloated since, well, basically Day 1. I'd love to know when I can call my "bump" a baby bump. My mom definitely thinks I'm showing, as does my husband - primarily because I've always had a flat stomach. That's definitely not the case now.

I forget the correct verbiage/wordage, but I know that typically at X weeks, the baby moves up and out of the pelvic region, or something like that. Just wondering when that usually occurs (and what exactly is occurring). I'm not hiding the pregnancy anymore but honestly not sure if what is showing is truly baby or still bloat.

[I told you it was a dumb question.]

I'm 14 weeks and can just feel my uterus. It is still so low and barely out of my pelvis. This is my first pregnancy. I'm guessing it will still be awhile before a true bump will show. For now it's just my pudge.

Your uterus moves above your pelvic bone at around 12 weeks. After that it's different for each pregnancy. If you're small, you usually show sooner.

I'm telling everyone that (what I'm fairly certain is my bloat bump still) is my baby bump. :)

At this point I don't care, Im just super excited to get a "bump"

(remind me of this when I'm 38wks and miserable, haha)

This is what I read too. I had a mom of 3 tell me I was too early to show, and it might not be true bump, but my organs are rearranging and my body is diff. I'm going to claim baby bump no matter what ppl on these boards will say. ;)

I've always been super skinny, so I felt like I was showing from day 1, but it was definitely bloat for a long time. By the time I went to bed, my stomach looked huge but I would wake up to my flat stomach again. When I started waking up with some bulge, I started counting it as a baby bump. I'm b/w 13 and 14 weeks and I would say it happened maybe a week or so ago.

Everyone keeps telling me my baby bump is so cute and I keep telling them I'm just fat.
I feel too jiggly to have a baby bump...it's not firm or cute at all. I wouldn't paint a pumpkin on it...that's for sure.

I think mine became a "baby bump" at 17ish weeks. I was on my back and sucked in my stomach. What remained was a round protruding uterus, and I was like, "oh, that's the baby." I made my husband feel the tight round of my uterus too. It was quite fun.

It's different for everyone and quite frankly the baby is pushing your organs up; therefore, any showing beyond normal bloat I would consider a bump.

Honestly, it doesn't matter. At any point your torso starts getting bigger - it's because of the baby. So call it a bump if you want to!

I personally consider it a bump when it's hard (the uterus is pushing my stomach forward). So for me it was around 14 weeks (this time).

Alrighty. So I'm thinking some of it is still bloat, but definitely can feel my uterus has moved up and out [least when I'm laying on my back I can feel it.] And, I can definitely no longer make my stomach flat ... even overnight, there's still a bump in the morning. I think I'm going to embrace the bump and call it my baby bump. :-) Whohoot!

When mine didnt change size during the course of the day, I decided it wasnt bloat, anymore.   I would wake up with a little rounding, but by the end of the day it was noticably bigger, and I knew that was just bloat and food.   Around 16 weeks, it was more or less the same size in the morning as it was when I went to bed, and I would feel a hard softball if I rolled over onto my stomach.  That's baby, not bloat  =)

A few days ago which would be 13 weeks and change, my ob and nurse felt my uterus for measurements I guess and both said "oh, you're showing already!" I'm a FTM with a slim to average body. It is different for everyone but I'll happily go with their interpretation.

Once friends and family started saying "OH you are showing!" That's when I claimed the bloat as bump lol it's not worth explaining it to them. For about 3 weeks (so at about 14 weeks) my bloat was paired with a tiny little bump, only I could tell the difference because of how it felt, and the bloat would be gone when I woke up in the morning. Now the bloat is still there on the top of my belly, but definitely a bump enough for people to see. (I'm 5'3", 120lbs for your reference, since body types pretty much determine all of what I just said to be true for you lol)

I could feel my uterus pretty early on. Probably around ten weeks.

Right now I have a small bump. It's finally enough for people other than my BF and our immediate families to notice. When I wear my maternity panel jeans the bump stands out like crazy for some reason.

A quote from a coworker today: "Wow! You can finally tell that you're pregnant. Before it just looked like you were gaining weight." I thought it was funny :)

This isn't really a medical diagnosis persay, but I say when strangers start to notice you're pregnant, it's definitely a real bump! I will also say that the further along I get, the harder mine gets, which is definitely a sign that it's baby and not bloat.

I'm 14 weeks and definitely have the beginnings of a bump. I was also bloated pretty much since day 1 and this is a much different look :)

I'm a FTM myself so i thought my bloat was my bump early on.. now I am 17 weeks and I can tell that I have a little baby bump. Best to feel it in the morning while laying down, kinda starts on top of your pubic bone, kinda like a round hump or hill starting to bulge out. Good luck!

After reading through the replies I feel like a fatty now.lol I will be 16 weeks on Monday and today I had a store cashier ask me if I was 6 months pregnant. I about cried at first then was a bit annoyed.lol. At my last appointment though(Jan. 3rd) I asked my doctor what she thought about the size of my "baby bump" and she said that at 14 weeks and 3 days(at that time) I was small compared to some of her other patients. Now family and friends were telling me at that time "Wow your huge! Are you sure you aren't carrying twins?".... She also said that since I'm small(5'1 on a good day and have a short torso) and with this being baby #4 she isn't surprised at all that my belly has "popped" already. The top of my uterus is about 3 fingers underneath my belly button too..
