Getting out on time with LO

Is everyone able to get out of the house on time? My friend who does not have kids wants to schedule a lunch 2 weeks away at a specific time. So the last few times I have tried to go to a scheduled anything LO decided to take a nap causing us to cancel or get there late. How do I explain this or do I just wake LO and go? FTM here!

I would wake him and go. Interrupting one nap at this age isn't a big deal IMO. Besides, they will pass back out in the car. Once they are older and have set times they nap you can schedule around it. I usually take the time earlier in the day when they are happy or napping to pack diaper bag and pick out their clothes o at least everything is ready to go when it's time ;)

Bumping on mobile so I can't see how old your LO is but you'll get the hang of it. I usually wake him ahead with enough time for a diaper change and top up feeding and enough time to get where I'm going. He usually sleeps while I'm out.

Your friend needs to be more flexible.  I'd set a rough time and tell her you'll call when you leave.  You can't account for a baby wanting to eat at the last minute, having a melt down, a diaper blowout, etc etc.  Some babies are very easy going.  Mine was not.  I could never count on him to just fall asleep in the car.  Another suggestion would be having your friend pick up some take-out and bring it over for lunch.

I wake my LO and go.

If we need to be somewhere, we plan to leave about 20 minutes earlier than actually needed just to allow time for figuring things out.

If DD is sleeping, I get myself completely ready (including diaper bag, water, etc) then I wake her with enough time to change her diaper and clothes and nurse if needed. I try to at least "top her off" with milk to make things easier as well. Thankfully my LO is soothed by the movement of the car, so she usually falls back to sleep as soon as we get going.

It's okay to every once in awhile wake your LO. Mine normally will go right back to sleep once we are in the car and he will get another 10-20 minutes in depending on how far we are going.

Help your friend understand that it is really hard to be anywhere on time with a baby, even if you plan to leave 20 minutes early. It seems like my LO KNOWS that I am trying to be somewhere on time and does things, like crap his pants, right as I am buckling him into his carseat. LOL (I know it's all coincidence but it sure feels like he is sabotaging me when these things happen!)

Figure out how long it takes you to get out of the house and go.  LO can sleep in the car while you drive / car seat while you eat.  It will get LO used to sleeping anywhere which gives you greater freedom.  Are you BF, FF, or bottle feeding?  If you're BF, you might need to let your friend know they might have to be flexible the day of if you aren't comfortable BF in public. Otherwise, take formula/BM and feed little one where before, after, or at lunch.

I have never been on time once I had my first born, and now I know I will FOR SURE never be on time with two of them to make sure I am all packed up for before we leave the house. A good friend will understand, even if she doesn't have kids, if you explain it to her. Or, once your LO starts getting a sleep schedule, then you can plan around their naps to do anything. I tell everyone I am free before 11 and after 2 due to my 2 year olds nap schedule.

Not sure how old your LO is, but we just wake ours and go (he's almost a month old). I'll get all of my stuff completely together (dressed, makeup on, diaper bag packed), then pick him up, take him to the changing table, and change his diaper and his clothes. I try to do this about 20 minutes before I actually have to leave, so that we have time to change, feed, and situate in the car seat. After he eats and protests being in the car seat for a few minutes, he usually goes back to sleep.
