Yogurt help...

So in my quest to get pregnant, I'm trying to be aware of what I eat and start healthier eating habits.  One of the things I'm trying (really trying to eat) is Greek yogurt.  I know it's a great source of protein and the probiotics associated with it are great for boosting my immune system and balancing my digestive health.  But I hate it!  The smell, the texture, the idea of having to stir it to make it one consistency. I can usually get down about half the container before I start really having issues and then I turn into a five year old at the dinner table, holding my nose, swallowing spoonfuls at a time and chasing it with a swig of tea.  I try to eat it at lunch because there is no way I could even come near it in the morning. Any tips on making it an easier part of my diet?  Better flavors?  Tasty add ins?  Mixing it with something?  Can I freeze it or is that killing the whole probiotic side of things? Does it taste better frozen?  I'm up for any tips!

Try a differnt brand.

I like Oikos Key lime or Vanilla.

They have a consistent texture and are freaking delish!

this. I use a vanilla greek yogurt, add my fiber, a V8 Vfusion and some kind of fruit (fresh or frozen depends on the shopping trip that week)

What brand are you eating? For me, the best tasting brand is Trader Joe's Vanilla flavored non-fat greek yogurt. It is the purple container there. I also like chobani, but I think that tastes more greek yogurt like. Try adding in berries or granola, it helps with the flavor and consistency in my opinion.

I love Fage plain Greek yogurt, it's so yummy!!  They have little individual servings with a side of fruit or honey, those are good, but I usually just put fresh fruit in mine.

Be careful when choosing a brand with fruit in it though, some have A LOT of sugar in them.  That sort of defeats the whole "eating healthy" thing.

Hi - I'm a big fan of Fage greek yogurt.  I usually add in blueberries, blackberries, and a little granola.  I would definitely try different brands though - I started out with Chobani and found that the texture kind of grossed me out and was glad to find that I liked the Fage brand.

I mix it in with granola, oatmeal and berries. I'm not particularly fond of the taste either, and this masks it pretty well. I use maple and brown sugar oatmeal and that's mostly what I taste.

All of the other tips are great, also try adding honey! My absolute favorite if Fage greek yogurt with a good dollop of honey mixed in. It adds even more nutrition and tastes like heaven to me. Then again I love honey.

I have tried both Chobani and Oikos.  Right now I have a container of Chobani strawberry sitting in front of me.  I'm trying to convince myself to open it and dig in without much success.  I always go for a yogurt with fruit flavor.  I haven't noticed that the brands taste different but like I said, I usually end up choking it down about half way through.

I used to mix it in a smoothie.  There is no kind of yogurt that agrees with me anymore, so I have a smoothie with almond milk, flax oil, flax & chia seeds (both high in protein) and probiotic every morning instead.  I add spinach and other fruits to the smoothie, pears are low in sugar and easy to digest.

Seriously, put that in the blender w/ some frozen berries, a little skim milk and honey. Add as much milk and berries as you need to dull the tanginess of the greek yogurt and drink up. That is what I do.

If you hate it and are only eating it for the probiotics, why don't you just take a probiotic supplement?

The smoothie idea is great!  I actually like plain Greek yogurt - I usually eat it with blueberries and a handful of almonds. The flavored ones are full of sugar, so I stay away from those. If you have to sweeten it, add a spoonful of honey.

THIS! Look at the sugar content on the flavored ones. I have yet to find one that isn't loaded in sugar, which is terrible for you. You also need to watch that in Fat Free yogurts (and any fat free foods really). If they take out the fat they have to add sugars to make it palatable. Fats don't make you fat. Excessive sugar consumption does.

I do plain and add berries and chia seeds.

* Greek yogurt PSA *

Be really careful if you're trying one of 'non-Greek' brands.  The whole appeal is that there's more protein and better nutrients because of the way it's processed.  But there's no real FDA regulation on what can/can't be labeled as "greek yogurt".  So a lot of the existing yogurt brands wanted to get on the bandwagon, but didn't want to invest in a whole new process.  Instead they just add chemicals and additives that change the taste/texture so it seems like Greek yogurt.  But at the end of the day it doesn't have any of the advantages; it's just regular yogurt with extra crap mixed in.

I like Chobani with fresh berries.  I can't do the plain though, no matter how hard I try.  That's just gross.

I love Fage, but I always recommend 2 over 0 it tastes sooooooo much better, and the consistency is awesome! I put sliced bananas and honey on it. Try strong sweet fruit, like berries or pineapple, to mask the taste.

honestly, if it bothers you that much, I would just skip it.

I like it myself. I put honey or jelly or fruit in it because I have a sweet tooth and don't really like the plain flavor. But seriously if you don't like it, find other ways to be healthy.
