DD won't swallow water

I give DD (10 months old, tomorrow) some water in a sippy cup with her meals. However, I think she spits out about 90% of it! She acts so thirsty, and seems to drink it really well, but then either spits it, or just opens her mouth and let's it run out! She soaks herself everytime! I've never changed her from a level 1 nipple on her bottles, so could it just be that it's coming out faster than she wants it to? Or does she maybe want it to be milk (even though she's never gotten milk in a sippy) and spits it out when she finds out it's not what she was hoping for?

I would go with it is probably an issue of her not being acclimated to amount of fluid coming out of the sippy cup. Try putting water in a bottle, or milk in the sippy and see if she does the same thing. DD2 gets water all over herself too, but most ends up in her belly, but she has been on a level 3 nipple since about 4-5 months. She will get the hang of it eventually, or really embarass herself on dates!!

Great. Thanks for that... Wink Just yesterday I was talking about the high probability of my son walking down the aisle with his blankie. (The context of the conversation was that I would prefer that to him still being in diapers!)

Someone told me that you can try and potty train your 2 yo for a year, or let them train themselves at 3. I'm with the second camp. DD1 will be 3 in March and we just got her PT'd. It was so much easier than we thought because we waited until she wanted to do it. Some kids want to do it earlier, and some kids later, but eventually, MOST will do it. If not, I'm sure your son will look adorable in a tux with a blanket and a diaper.

Our daughter has tried water in a bottle, sippy cup, and regular cup with the same results every time. She thinks it is the Most Fun Toy Ever! She'll sip, drink, what have you, then make burbling noises, make it bubble, or just have it pour out her mouth.

Amusingly, we have to work hard to keep her from drinking the water... in her bath.

Madly trying to get DD1 potty trained before DD2 came ... It didn't work!

I think the bath/pee water is more interesting for them. Sigh.

Glad I'm not alone on that one! So did you just quit trying all together and just wait until she was ready, or did it finally just click? I'm considering putting all things potty away and not mentioning it until he brings it up.

(Sorry to turn this into a toddler PT discussion, but it's my post, I can do what I want to!)

We didn't put everything away, we just sort of tabled it for a while. We would bring it up periodically, and we didn't put a pull up on her Sat or Sun mornings and let her run around naked until it was time to get dressed and go somewhere. We knew she was physically ready to train because she rarely had an accident like that, but emotionally she wasn't because she refused to sit on the potty and go and would hold it until the pull up went on, and then WOOSH! She is VERY stubborn (sort of proud about that), and I knew I was p*ssing in the wind (hehe) if I tried before she was ready. She just sort of started taking her diaper off if it even had a little pee in it, or telling me to take it off, and then not wanting another one on, and well, she is almost three, so we decided to try again. If I were you, I would not let go just yet, but do a soft sell on it. Try to broach the subject every so often, guage his receptiveness, and go from there. Not every child responds to "you will do this" regardless of whatever other moms might think.

Try a cup with straw! We have the zoli cup (you can google it). It is awesome, our daughter loves it, took her a couple times to know that she needed to suck from the straw but she is great at it now!

Good Luck!
