New here and a couple of questions

Hey everyone, I have been lurking on here for months as I thought I would eventually be moving to IVF. I had my consult today and am going to start on ym next cycle. I will be doing the long protocol with suprefact and gonal F.

Here are my questions:

1) Has/is anyone on surprefact? I always see lupron.

2) We are unexplained but my RE said today that we can do ICSI if we want to (almost) guarantee fertilization. If you have done/are doing ICSI, what were your reasons? She said we cannot do 50/50.

Welcome!! We are doing ICSI, but we weren't given a choice. We are also on a warranty program for our IVF so it's probably part of it to increase our chances since this is a share risk.

Me - 35 DH - 37 SD - 10
Married 10/8/2011
Started TTC July 2011. Infertility workup July & August 2012.
DH - all clear. Me - Unicornuate Uterus discovered at HSG 8/16/12. Referred for IVF 8/28/12. Approved for IVF Warranty Program 10/2/12. Laparoscopy 11/1/12 - removed right rudamentary horn, both tubes, left ovarian cyst and endometriosis. Given all clear for pregnancy after 1/1/2013.
IVF cycle 1 starts 1/19/13!
12 eggs, 7 mature and all 7 fertilized - 2 Frosties!!
5 day SET 2/4/13 - Beta 2/13: 86 & 2/15: 186 BFP!!!!

Welcome and good luck! We didn't do any ICSI with our last cycle, we don't have any MFI, but our clinic reserves the right to use it if they can't get the eggs to fertilize.
Me: 34, DH: 30 :: TCC since 2/11
SA: Perfect! CD3 b/w=Elevated Prolactin? HSG = Blocked Right Tube
April- Femara 2.5mg + Trigger + IUI = BFN
May- Femara 5mg = CX - No Response on Left = BFN
June- Femara 7.5mg + Trigger + IUI = BFN
August- Lap & Hysteroscopy = Blocked & Partially Blocked Tubes
Scar Tissue Removed, Left Tube Partially Open
September- Femara 5mg = CX - No Response on Left = BFN
October- 100mg Clomid + Trigger + TI = BFN
IVF # 1: Stims 11/30 ER 12/12/12! (10R, 8F, 2 Transferred, 6 Frosties!)
Beta #1- 176 c/p @ 4w4d
FET #1 February 26th
Lost 4 Frosties to Thaw, Transferred 2 = BFFN
IVF # 2 in May Stims Begin 5/10

We ended up have to use ICSI as a rescue technique for IVF 1. We got 27 eggs, 24 were mature and only 1 fertilized so the did rescue ICSI on 12 and we were able to get 4 more and did a 3 day transfer, although that cycle ended up being a BFN. On this cycle we decided to do ICSI from the start we retrieved 33 eggs, 24 were mature and 18 fertilized. We had 6 that were early compaction stage on day 3 plus 5 more a little behind that so we were able to move to a 5 day transfer.

Married and TTC since November 2010 SA Normal, HSG Normal, B/W Normal = Unexplained IF
5 Failed IUI's Moving onto IVF, Stims Start 10/27, ER 11/5=27 eggs!, 23 mature, 1 Fertilized WTF?? Rescue ICSI on 12 and we had 3 more fertilize. Transfered 2 on 11/9. Beta on 11/23.

"Guarantee fertilization"? No way! My clinic said the same thing and even after we turned down ICSI, they did it anyway with our second fresh cycle. We got better fertilization naturally (though we don't have any MFI issues to consider) and the embryos turned out much better without the ICSI. It could have been a protocol change as well, but that's my two cents.


TTC #1 for about 3.5 years
ME: 37, PCO, immune issues?, teflon uterus (my added diagnosis)
HIM: 38, Perfect. (Showoff.)
Month before starting Clomid, spontaneous pregnancy. m/c at 7 weeks and D&C.
Four months of Clomid, one IUI, with Intralipid each cycle: BFNs all
IVF 1.0 July 2012 -- Lupron, bravelle, menopur, estrogen, progesterone supps, intralipid. 14 ER, 14 fertilized, 1 blast transferred, 2 on ice. BFN
FET 1.1 -- 10/2, transferred our 2 blasts. Lupron, PIO, estrogen, baby aspirin, prednisone. BFN.
IVF 2.0 December 2012 -- Bravelle, Menopur, Ganirelix, Prednisone, Metformin, estrogen, progesterone supps. 22 eggs retrieved on 12/14, 17 mature, 15 fertilized. OHSS anticipated so ET cancelled. 3 embryos frozen.
Broke up with old RE. Moving on to new dude. Maybe the change of scenery will be just the trick for our frosties. On BCPs for possible April FET.

We were told that we needed ICSI because of our MFI Dx. I'm not sure what your Dx is, but I guess it's insurance that fertilization will more likely happen. What I don't like about ICSI...it's superseding the natural selection process. If you don't need it, I guess it comes down to the pros and cons for your situation.

We haven't cycled yet, but will be doing ICSI.  We're severe MFI and its the only option for us.  If you're going through the entire IVF process, why not do everything possible to increase (not guarantee) your chances?

Vas reconstruction surgery in April 2012; unsuccessful
