RePost: Cradle cap

My son is 3 1/2 months old and still has cradle cap on the top of his head. The pedi said to use baby oil before bath time and let it sit for 15 minutes, then use a brush to try to brush out the flakes. Thing is, I get so nervous that it's creating raw skin. Also, it's on his soft spot. Should I be worried about brushing that area? Anyone have a similar experience? Any help would be appreciated.

All my three kids had cradle cap. DD2 still has it. We did nothing about it, since it doesn't hurt them and is not contagious. Eventually, it just went away.

DS had cradle cap. We tried all the remedies but I really think it'll go away on its own.

If you do treat it, just be careful not to be too aggressive or you could cause hair loss.

Our LO does not have cradle cap, but he does have really dry skin that is flaking. Our Pedi said to use the same treatment - Baby Oil or Olive Oil on the scalp...massage it in, let it sit, and use a brush or comb to get the flakes out.

Our Pedi said not to worry about the soft spot - it's really well protected. Obviously you can't rub too hard, but you need to rub hard enough to get the dry skin off.

Both of my kids have CC. Dd is 3! It comes and goes. I scrub it bc it stops her hair from growing. I got a cradle cap kit by safety first. I dont scrub i use the little "nit" comb in the kit to get out the flakes.

I see that some pps said to do nothing about it and it will go away.

I worked in a daycare for 3.5 years and there was one family who had three children. They all had cradle cap, and with all of them, the mother did nothing about it. I was only there for the second and third child but both of them had bad enough that it itched and they would scratch their heads so hard that they would bleed. I don't know if there were underlying skin problems, but I don't think cradle cap should be ignored, no matter how little there is.

My DS is 3 months tomorrow, and I just noticed it starting. I just brushed it off (it did take a little effort and his head turned a little red, but then I stopped).

I think if you do it for short amounts at a time, but do it often, it should clear up and you won't have to worry about his head getting raw. And as for the soft spot, Joey head butted me once, and my chin hit his soft spot really hard (like it sort of dug into it) and he was totally fine, no crying or anything.
