Pumping.

LO is a little over a week old, and finally breastfeeding is starting to get easy for both of us. I need to start up a supply of BM, but I am not sure when a good time to start is and the best way to get a supply without stealing her feeding time.

Ideally, you shouldn't start pumping until around 4 weeks, to keep your supply regulated.

This. Why do you need a supply now anyway?

I'm in the same boat as you. I go back to work in 2 1/2 months so I have time. But need to figure out when is a good time to start. Ill be gone during the day and my husband will need an ample supply to start with.

I started about a week nd a half after LO was born. I wanted to increase my supply and have a good stash. When I went back to work after DS1 I had 300 oz stored but struggled with supply a little bit and completely depleted that just as he turned one. Since DS2 has had gas issues, I feed him on one side and pump the other for my stash. I started slow, just pumping a couple extra ounces a day and now I've worked my way up to 5 to 10 ounces a day stored. I only pump after we get up for the day at 7 until noon or 1. You could also just try pumping after LO eats. You might not get much at first but eventually your body will produce more.

I started pumping almost as soon as I got home.  DH and I are going on a cruise in Feb (DS2 will be 3.5 months) and I knew I'd need a HUGE "stash".... and it's a good thing that I did, because now that I have "regulated"- I can't pump nearly as much as I used to!!!

I currently have about 400 or so ounces saved up... enough for the week we will be gone, PLUS a bunch extra!

I need to pump because I have a job I have to get back to here soon. Thanks for some realistic answers :)
