So annoyed

I was planning a home birth but because of insurance coverage differences (a hospital birth would be covered 100%) we changed our plans halfway through this pregnancy and have been working on transferring providers. My records are now all sent to the new place that I want to deliver with and they called after hours today and left a message saying they don't think I'll be a "good fit" for them. ARGH! I'm sure it's because I had Hyperemesis (severe morning sickness) so my chart looks a lot more complicated than it actually is. Other than the excessive puking I'm having a completely normal pregnancy so this is a total shock and I don't have a back up plan. Now if they actually won't take me (I'll call right away tomorrow to clarify) I'm going to have to wait forever for another appointment with another provider and will have to continue to go without prenatal care. Sorry, had to vent!

Bummer! Is there another provider that delivers at the hospital you chose? Maybe call the hospital and see if you could get a list of referrals? I'd try and speak with another provider directly to explain, and go from there.

My first hope is that they are just misinterpreting my chart somehow and will still allow me to be a patient. It's a practice of nurse midwives that I think would be a great fit for what I'm looking for. If they don't take me though I know that other people do deliver at the hospital I like, I'm just hoping that they wouldn't have the same issues that these people do.

That sucks a** big time. I'm sorry :( I've never heard of a doctor not taking on a patient. I know with my GD I wasn't allowed to see the midwives at the hospital but that's b/c I require closer monitoring and whatnot.

RussianMommy:
How can someone decline a pregnant woman's prenatal care??

I have no frickin' clue. Before when I talked to them they said that if they couldn't get my info soon enough to do the GD test at this upcoming appointment (scheduled for Friday) that they might not be able to provide me with care. I made sure to get them all of the crap they needed so that I would be able to go in and get it done and now for some reason I'm not a good candidate. I totally wasn't expecting to be turned down so I didn't even bother looking around.

Has to be a mistake of some kind. I wouldn't think that severe MS in early pregnancy would be a cause to deny prenatal care to a particular patient. It's not exactly a high-risk situation, especially now that you're back on track with a normal and healthy pregnancy.

Whew! There has been clarification! They hadn't been communicating well between each other about my intentions so the person who called was under the impression that I wanted care from them but still wanted a home birth. Once I explained that and the lapse in care (19-27 weeks because of my past provider and new provider not working together to transfer my charts) they said they would still take me on as a patient. Yes!
