Which car seat did you purchase?

With my first born, I wasn't obsessed with car seats. I admit I purchased a travel system because I thought it was cute. This time? I'm more experienced, which automatically makes me smarter, right? (Ha! Sarcasm.)

We have a small coupe and a mid-size SUV. We want to purchase one car seat, but two bases to use in both vehicles. If you have a small car, which seat did you purchase?

We too have a small coupe and we registered for the Chicco Keyfit 30.  My husband did a lot of research and found that this is the smallest and safest car seat.  He wasn't willing to part with his sports car.  So, his job was to find a car seat that works! :)

FTM, but we got the Chicco Keyfit as well based on safety ratings. My SIL had it with her kids and the only complaint I've heard is that it's a little heavy, but I'm all about safety. It fits well in their Malibu.

I have a Chicco Keyfit 30 from DD that I will reuse with DS.  It fit fine in my Altima.

My DH is tall (6'2"), so it had to be installed behind the passenger seat in the event that he drove my car.  I am 5'2", and could have easily installed it anywhere in the back seat.  It made for an uncomfortable ride as a passenger though, because we had to move the passenger seat up quite a bit.

We stopped using the infant carrier when DD was about 11 months old.  She was still technically well within the limits to ride in the carseat safely (about 20lbs), but it was just getting too heavy to lug around.  DD was obviously much more alert/awake by this time, and enjoyed sitting in a grocery cart, stroller, etc...so keeping her in an infant seat wasn't necessarily practical anymore.

If I had to do it all over again, I think that I would have went with a smaller infant seat - either the Chicco Keyfit or Graco Snugride that only goes to 22lbs.

(And in case you're curious, we went with a Britax Marathon when we switched her to a convertible.  She's still rear-facing.  It takes up less front-back space than the Chicco KeyFit 30....so the passenger seat has a bit more room now.)

We got the Britax Chaperone... Love it!  But we have a large SUV (Toyota Highlander)... may be a bit big for a small SUV or car.

We bought the Safety 1st OnBoard Air 35. I wanted a seat with a high height limit (32") because I have tall babies, and I want to make it through the whole first winter in the infant set.

Both FI and I have Honda Civics. We were gifted an Evenflo infant car seat that we'll be using until we figure out what convertible car seat we will invest in for the long term.

ETA: DS is in an Evenflo car seat, and it's really not THAT bulky. I want to get him a new car seat just because I don't like certain features on the car seat that we have. (It's a real pain in the ass to try and adjust the straps) I don't foresee myself having any issue with working the two car seats together in my car, as I have a four door, but FI has a two door.

I figure that the infant car seat will be a lot easier for him to secure LO in for the time being.

We have small cars and one tall driver.  We had a Chicco Keyfit 22 and then moved to Britax Roundabouts when DS was about 5 months old.  They actually take up less room than the Chiccos.

I had a Graco SnugRide with DS1 and loved it.  He is 6 now, so we actually got a new Graco SnugRide for this little one.  I thought its size was pretty nice.

FTM, but we bought the Chicco Keyfit 30 based on the safety ratings. I did a lot of research before we decided on this one.

We also bought a travel system the first time bc we had no clue what we were doing. We switched to a convertible and an uppababy umbrella when DS was about 4 months old.

We were going to go with the Britax B-Safe or Chaperone this time bc of safety and bc we love Britax, but they are so stinkin' big - it was going to take up way too much space in our car, pushing our front passenger seat quite a bit forward. So going with something smaller, but just as safe, we decided on the Chicco Keyfit 30. We actually got one on clearance for $132 at Target a few days ago, so if you do go with the Chicco, check your Target store to see if it is marked down.
