'Get to know me' Party

I know it's not proper for me to throw my own baby shower, but since my hostess more or less bailed on me 2 weeks before my baby shower, would it be ok for me to throw my own "Get to know me" Party after the baby is born? Just so everyone can get to know the baby?

In any case, yes, a meet the baby party is totally appropriate.

This.  We hosted a "meet the baby BBQ".  We have an annual BBQ and just combined the two - twice (for #2 and #3.  Keep in mind that you do not register and gifts are optional.  If you didn't have a shower most likely a lot of people will bring a gift for baby.

That's what I'm wondering about too. If it is already planned then I would say just go ahead with it. If people ask about what happened to your hostess tell them the truth, just in a nicer way than "she bailed on me." GL! 

ETA: A get to know me party is fine to. Just cancel the shower or tell every one it has changed.

1. That totally sucks.  I'm sorry your hostess bailed on you, not cool.

2. It's totally appropriate to host a Meet the Baby party, especially if your shower was cancelled last minute.

Is there anyone who'd be able to step in and be your hostess?  I assume invites have gone out already...

someone else stepped in last minute to help me, we've been working on invites yesterday and today, she didn't do anything, and more or less just stopped talking to anyone about it, i found out a few days ago
