Anyone lease an suv/crossover/bigger vehicle?

Trying to make a few cutbacks for #2 and may consider selling my car and leasing. I know so little about it - but have checked into a few options (subaru forester) and found them to be kind of affordable ($229/m.) Does anyone have any recommendations or stories to share to help me get started? I drive the SUV, so we'd like to keep something that can haul 2 kids and one big dog comfortably.

We just got a GMC terrain.  It is a midsize SUV and is not expensive.  Our German Shepherd fits in the back nicely.  Now we don't have to worry about her hair getting on the seats.  The back row can move up really close to the front which will be good for a child in a carseat.  You can give it a bottle or a pacifer without having to unbuckle your seatbelt.

This is a second time I am leasing a vehicle. Things  to consider when leasing, how much mileage you put on your car annually? Would they allow you to swap/trade your lease with little or no penalty?  What are the final payments at the end of lease term, sometimes the monthly lease is attractive, but when you add on all the other fees, they don't turn out to be such great deals.

I needed an AWD, because I have to get to work regardless of road/weather conditions, so I was limited what I could lease. I am leasing an Acura MDX, it's a 7 seater, very roomy and spacious.  I got a special last year Jan with $0 sign in, I also negotaited the mileage upfront, I knew the 10K miles a year was not going to be enough so I bought extra 2k miles a year upfront a lot cheaper than what they would charge me at the end of lease term.

We just leased a Subaru Outback for $279/month.  We have a giant dog and this will be our first child.  It's really roomy so I think 2 kids and a dog would work okay, but since I haven't tried a carseat in it yet, I can't be totally sure.

We didn't lease, but we decided that the Outback was the perfect family car for us.  We have two big dogs, so we needed something that could transport that and kids.  It's roomy and really comfortable, and has a reputation for being pretty reliable (and will run for ages - but that might not be as important if you're just leasing).

So - another vote for an Outback!  Though the Forester is nice as well :-)

We just bought a Mazda CX-5.  Its a smaller SUV but this will be our first child and we have two medium sized dogs.  We both really like the car.  They have a CX-9 that my SIL just bought and she likes a lot which is a little bigger than our CX-5.  I have never leased a car before though so no advice there!

I have the Mazda CX-9. It's a 7 passenger so technically 3 rows of seating. However, we keep the last row down and bought a rubber mat and just use that space as massive cargo. It will be perfect for strollers and bags and PnPs, etc. I don't know how much the leases are since we paid cash 2 years ago.

My neighbor just leased a Ford Explorer which now has 3rd row seating as well, which can be laid flat for cargo space too. I think his lease is $297/mo.

We love our 2012 Subaru Outback.  It is probably my favorite car I've ever owned.  Great in the snow, really roomy inside (I can fit 3 car seats across) and the cargo area would easily haul a big dog.  Good gas mileage, too, an average of 25mpg for me on city and county roads (not much highway driving).

We're not leasing, but we just got a Terrain as well. My H's job means he sees a ton of different types of cars getting used and abused, and he's driven nearly everything out there - and this was his pick. We have 2 golden retrievers, so it looks like our needs are pretty similar.

Do you currently own your car or are you just looking for a lower payment? If you own your car, it doesn't make sense to take on a car payment when you currently have none. If you are just looking for a lower payment, consider what it would cost you to sell your car. Will you actually make money off the sale or would you just pay off the loan? Could you just refinance your loan to a lower interest rate? Sell it and buy something with cash?

I'm not a fan of leasing because financially it just doesn't make sense.

We've got a forester and are replacing my husband's truck with an outback. Love Subaru.

No leasing experience though.

Subaru forester is an excellent vehicle. If your car is paid off, can seat all family members and in good working order, might be better to keep it. Leasing can be tricky if you drive a lot, or have a long commute. Most leases allow only 12,000 miles per year, and charge exorbitant overages. However, if your current car cannot accommodate you and you drive very little, then a lease may be the perfect choice.

The real benefit of a lease is this: after your lease term, your car is "used" and can be purchased for the "used" value. Since you are the one who has been driving it, you know exactly how well it has been maintained. Therefore, it is a safe used car to purchase, inexpensively.

A dealer certified pre-owned vehicle is a perfectly safe used car purchase.

Also, if you're going to buy your car at the end of your lease, it makes more sense just to buy it in the first place than to lease it and then buy it.
