Need help choosing photography options!

Hello everyone! Need some advice here!

After lots of research and talking it over with DH, I think he has fairly suggested 2 photography options for us, but I cannot choose!

For the first year:

Option 1: Maternity Photos, Newborn Photos, 6 month photos, 12 month photos

Option 2: Newborn Photos, 3 month photos, 6 month photos, 9 month photos, 12 month photos

As you can see Option 2 leaves out maternity photos. In my DH's opinion these are the ones we would use the least. But for some reason I am having trouble letting go of the idea of maternity photos, maybe because I just want a way to capture the special time of carrying our baby. I am just having the hardest time!

Any advice? Which photos would I miss more..the maternity or would I miss out on the 3 month and 8 month photos?

Thank you in advance!!

Personally I would go with option 1. Baby does change alot during the 1st year but I found that trying to set up times and places for photo shoots every 3 months was difficult. With DD1 I only got the new born, 6 and 12 month photos done because life was so hectic. I have friends who took pics of baby every month on the same chair or holding the same stuffed animal to show their growth.

A lot of photographers offer a first year package, which turns out cheaper than paying by the session. I would look into that. I feel so gross I don't know if I care about mat photos, but that's just me. I'm a prof photographer and NEVER get photos taken. I'm weird. Lol

You might not use them, as in showing them off to everyone.  But they would make you personally remember this time in your life.  I don't have any pictures of me being pregnant with my first and I wish I did.

I always like my snap shots of babies more then professional ones.   So personally I wouldn't mind skipping the 3rd and 8th month, Id just take them at home.

Conclusion for me,  Option 1

The package should be newborn, 3, 6, 9, 12...can vary by photographer. I almost think I'd rather have birth photos over maternity. Those will mean more to me, personally.

Personally I would do option 2 and then buy maternity pictures separately.  I'm a photographer and have a package that offers all of them (maternity, NB, 3, 6, 9, 12).  I a total picture wh0re though, so I have to photograph or get photographed for any event :)

I would go with Option 1 and on the other months simply go to JcPenney;s or inexpensive studio for those.  They don't change much from 3 to 6 etc and I decided to spend bucks on the maternity, newborn, and yearly pictures.

I would go with #1, personally. Those are the biggest milestones for me. You'll have plenty of your own pictures to fill in the gaps.

i would go with option 1. i love this idea. it is something you can do at home very quickly. and as you said...I just want a way to capture the special time of carrying our baby. seeing as how it is a once in a life time experience!

OK, for some reason that posted without me typing!!

Anyway....I like this answer....I love my maternity photos...those would be hard to give up.  I did all of the pics with my DD though, maternity, newborn, 3, 6, 9 and 12 month.  I like the idea of just going somewhere else cheaper for the other ones or if you have a friend with a nice camera...you could just do that for the gaps :)  I would do something though for the 3 & 9 month though b/c they really do change so much

As a professional photographer I would recommend option 1 if you want maternity photos. 2-3 month photos are really tricky because the baby isn't as sleepy and flexible as the newborn stage and isn't as smiley as the 6 month stage. They are also hard to position when they are that size since they can't sit up by themselves so that can make the photos turn out worse. If you do skip that age just take a ton of photos yourself and it's not going to be that big of a deal.
